Exterior paint on wood surfaces can last 5 to 15 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Interior paint tends to have a longer life span, often 10 years or more. Regular cleaning, touch-ups, and addressing any issues like peeling or cracking can extend the life of the paint. 

You can sometimes add water to your spray gun, depending on the design of your sprayer and the type of paint, paint finish, or sealant. In many cases, mixing in around 10% percent of water to the paint makes for an easier application process and further evens out the mist. Read the instructions to make sure this is an appropriate step.

It's possible to paint over paneling without sanding if you use a primer that masks defects and provides a strong base layer for the final coat of paint to adhere to. If you have solid wood paneling, it's helpful to sand it lightly so your primer and paint stick. Always ensure the heater is off and cooled before you begin this project. Heat-resistant paint isn’t necessary unless your heater is heating above 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
