"I recently had my hot water tank replaced by Fairway Plumbing, and I couldn't be more pleased with the service. The technicians were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, and professional throughout the entire process. They completed the installation in a timely manner, did excellent work, and took the time to ensure everything was done correctly. What impressed me most was their attention to detail, they cleaned up all debris before leaving, leaving the area spotless. The price was also very reasonable for the quality of work provided. I would hire Fairway Plumbing again in a heartbeat and highly recommend them to anyone looking for professional workmanship, outstanding customer service, and fair pricing. "Tim did a great job with the replacement of our water heater. Even though it was the day after Thanksgiving he moved some of his other appointments around to come to our home that afternoon. Tim and his assistant were careful to put on shoe covers in the house and to observe COVID 19 precautions. The job required more complicated plumbing since we have a desuperheater loop from our geothermal heat pump that connects to the water heater; the additional charge for this work was minimal. Tim was here until after 5:00 that evening, with the result that we had hot water over the weekend."

"Went well to this point of replacing parts. Then the United needed to have a system leak test and then needed freon put in pump. This was refused by Choice warranty. We were left with a partial repair and a heat pump not able to do it's job."

"I have been with AHS since 1999 and have used them 4 times: dryer belt broke, dishwasher leaked, heat pump quit working properly, and dryer stopped working. Yes, it is frustrating to wait on hold for a long time, but I have been pleased overall with the service provided. They subcontract the work out, and in the case of the dryer, the guy did not know how to fix the problem and left. AHS followed up immediately with another provider, who had fixed my first dryer problems 8 years ago, and was very knowledgable and did an excellent job. Service charge is standard $75. I have an annual maintenance plan for my heating/cooling systems with a heating company and when they came out this past fall, they found a problem with the heat pump and quoted the fix at $2,000 plus. I called AHS and they confirmed my heat pump was covered under the warranty and sent someone out the very next day. They immediately fixed the problem and I paid them the $75 service fee. Thus far, I have had good experiences and will continue my annual plan with them."

Wells and Pumps questions, answered by experts

If the well pump is more than 10 years old, it's worth contacting a well pump repair pro near you and weighing the cost of repairs against buying a new well pump. Pumps can last a long time with regular maintenance, but if your pump is nearing the 10-year mark and starts needing repairs frequently, it’s time to replace it.

There are many potential causes of low well water pressure. The most common include sediment buildup, leaking pipes, a failing well pump, or a cracked pressure tank.

Yes, most professional repairs include checking for leaks, sealing connections, and ensuring proper drainage.

The pressure in a well pressure tank should be set 2 to 3 PSI below the pump's cut-on pressure. The cut-on pressure is the lower number in the pressure setting (e.g., the '30' in 30/50 PSI) and is the point at which the pump starts. The cut-out pressure is the higher number, where the pump stops.

For example:

  • If your pressure switch is set to 30/50 PSI, the tank pressure should be 27-28 PSI.

  • If your pressure switch is set to 40/60 PSI, the tank pressure should be 38 PSI.

Common pressure settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60 PSI. The difference between the cut-on and cut-out pressure is typically 20 PSI.

You should have your well inspected once per year. You should also have a well inspection done when you’re buying a house with a private well, when the well cap is opened, when the septic tank is repaired, or when there is flooding.

During your annual visit, a pro will make sure that everything is working correctly and check for certain contaminants, including total coliform. Every other year, they’ll look for things like metals and nitrates, and every five years, they’ll test for pesticides.
