"Great. Left a text which was replied to withing the hour. Glenn provided an on the spot estimate followed by a written proposal the next day. Once we were ready for painting he was notified on a Friday and on Monday he and Augustin showed up early and completed the job by Tuesday evening. "We hired Jeremy to replace some rotten wood around 2 of our doors and a water damaged ceiling. Jeremy was great!! Very detail oriented, and thorough. Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

If you don’t have a coping saw, you can use an angle grinder to cope crown molding, but it takes a little more precision. Place your molding down on your workbench, angle the grinder at a 45-degree angle toward the molding, and back cut the wood. You’ll need to carefully angle your grinder to accommodate the curves in the wood, and aim to remove around 1 inch from the profile of the molding.

If you’re just replacing a few broken or damaged joists, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $300 per joist. However, a complete installation for a home or room will take into account the cost of labor, which ranges from $25 to $40 per hour. Floor joist installation for an entire room, for example, can cost between $5,000 and $10,000, depending on the room's size and the materials used.
