"These guys were hard workers, and took their time and they did a beautiful job, trimming my trees and bushes, They cleaned up after themselves and blew off my driveway.. . They hauled off all the limbs and debris. They will be doing all of my work from now on, and I highly recommend them."

"We have hired Joel at Leatherneck Land Clearing to complete multiple projects around our homestead and couldn’t have been happier with the outcomes! We originally contracted them to assist with clearing and grading a section of land to build a 40’ x 60’ building. Throughout the process he was extremely patient with us as we changed our mind more than once on the location of the building site due to unforeseen circumstances and even helped guide us to achieve the best outcome possible. We were so pleased, we hired him again shortly after to thin and mulch a few acres of overgrown woods on the property and it completely transformed the landscape. We have recommended them to family and friends and will definitely be hiring them again in the future to help with more around our property. If you need quality work done, they are not only affordable but extremely communicative and I truly am glad we found them!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Digging out a basement takes anywhere from a few days to a few months. Most projects take at least two to five weeks, but it could take several months if you encounter obstacles. This project takes longer if you need to brace or raise your home before the excavation. Digging out a basement in new construction can take as little as three days.

Almost any kind of home can have a wine cellar or cabinet installed. You’ll need an area where a concrete floor can be put in, along with the necessary insulation, climate control, and ventilation systems. If you think of yourself as an aspiring sommelier, an underground wine cellar may be ideal, but it will cost significantly more.

What you choose to install really depends on your budget and how many bottles you’re looking to store.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

The cost to repair a crawl space runs between $1,500 and $15,000, depending on the extent of the damage. Major flooding or water repairs can cost up to $10,000 for removal and repairs. If you simply need to clean your crawl space, expect to pay between $2,000 and $6,000 for a major cleanout. Replacing a crawl space beam due to rot or damage can cost between $1,500 and $5,000, while removing and replacing damaged insulation costs between $1,000 and $4,000.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.
