"Gianfranco and his team did an excellent job rebuilding our front porch. They had the expertise and kept at the task. They put in new joists, new tongue-and-groove slats for the floor, and constructed four new railings and four new columns. They painted all of it. They also built us a fine new brick stairs. The work was done on time, too. Gianfranco was a pleasure to work with and explained everything so we could understand it. Jenny from the office was always on top of things with scheduling and billing. The price was very good and fair. I highly recommend Canelli for your next porch or deck project."

"I purchased a "Big Deal" special for 6 landscape lights installed. In speaking with MI, I decided that I what I would prefer was actually 6 walkway lights and 4 additional accent tree lights. The guys at MI worked with me both to accommodate the switch from landscape to walkway lights and figure out the best way to add the wiring necessary to get under walkways and driveways (no small challenge since the walkway's foundation is so deep it almost stumped a professional excavator using boring equipment!). Needless to say the process took longer and became substantially more involved than the original "big deal" offer. Throughout, they were patient, professional and went out of their way to accommodate a changed work plan with minimal cost increase. Not only am I impressed that they were flexible enough to allow changes to the original deal, but the additional work I requested was reasonably prices, promptly executed and looks terrific. I would definitely recommend them!"

"After waiting two months for another contractor to complete the renovation of my master bath, I finally gave up and terminated the contract. Through angies list I found Imperial Stone. Tony came out right away and did the preliminary measurements and within two weeks of selecting the stone I had beautiful new countertops and sinks--all at a price I found exceptionally reasonable. Needless to say, Tony and Sam are my heroes. I wouldn't consider going to anyone else now."

"Lamont was great to work with. As a young woman, hiring a contractor was a little intimidating. Lamont was super professional, well priced, and his sales approach was great. I didn’t feel pressured at all. The room turned out great!"

"We have lived in this house about a year.  (The house is 12 years old).   When we bought the house the inspection report noted that there were cracks in the masonry due to normal settlement.  The inspection report noted that these should be repaired to prevent water penetration.  Doug did a full inspection of the exterior of the house to locate all cracks in bricks and masonry.
It went very well.  All the work done was outside we had a couple of delays due to weather - Severe thunderstorms.
Doug and his crew arrived on time and had all the work done in short order.
The job site was cleaned up and my back porch was much cleaner after they left than it was before they started!

"Loay Jabbar provided the information I needed quickly and clearly. I immediately signed up for full coverages for our two homes because of the discounts offered and because of the quality of service that Loay is saying and promising Choice Home Warranty provides to its customers. I have bad experiences with other home warranty companies so I am hoping I found the best company that would deliver the best service."

"I highly recommend Carlos and his crew! They removed not one but two layers of wallpaper. Repaired the walls where needed, removed the chair rail and painted my entire dinning room. It looks stunning! They are fast, efficient, reasonable and do a fantastic job. I’ve already got them scheduled to come back to do another job for us."

Custom Home Builders FAQs, answered by experts

If you want to make your home eco-friendly, enjoy low maintenance, and love the fact that its looks will take people’s breath away (and not because they were trying to blow your house down), then a modern brick home is right for you. You can hire a mason to get the building process started for your brick home.

But if you’re not fond of the color and don’t want to deal with the process of repointing or other repairs, consider going with vinyl or wood. These materials offer a lower cost. While they tend to require more maintenance, they don’t cost nearly the same as exterior brick house repair.

Builder-grade is one of two types of stock cabinets, whereas semi-custom designs allow homeowners some control over the color, finish, or hardware on their cabinets. Stock cabinets are sold in construction-grade and builder-grade designs. Construction-grade cabinets are usually made from inexpensive medium-density fiberboard, which is prone to moisture damage, whereas builder-grade models are a step up with higher-quality materials. Construction-grade designs are the most common type of cabinets in America.

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.

Building a house without blueprints is not advised. It will prevent you from obtaining necessary building permits and meeting building codes and is likely to result in shoddy construction and unsafe living conditions. Detailed blueprints ensure that a house is built to exact specifications and is constructed safely and structurally stable.

A construction-to-permanent loan is the most common type of mortgage used to finance a house teardown and rebuild. These loans include financing for construction costs and convert to a long-term mortgage once construction is complete. Check the terms of the loan closely before beginning work—there are often restrictions requiring you to use licensed contractors for all work.
