Small jobs welcome

"We had our chimney resurfaced with a more durable ;bird proof EIFS synthetic stucco. Fernandez stucco did a great job and the chimney looks like new. Juan was easy to work with, kept us up to date and was always responsive to questions. The crew worked hard and seemed to be a nice group of guys. Would definitely recommend Fernandez stucco to anyone needing stucco work."

"We have lived in this house about a year.  (The house is 12 years old).   When we bought the house the inspection report noted that there were cracks in the masonry due to normal settlement.  The inspection report noted that these should be repaired to prevent water penetration.  Doug did a full inspection of the exterior of the house to locate all cracks in bricks and masonry.
It went very well.  All the work done was outside we had a couple of delays due to weather - Severe thunderstorms.
Doug and his crew arrived on time and had all the work done in short order.
The job site was cleaned up and my back porch was much cleaner after they left than it was before they started!

"Since we had a 5 year warranty, I called for some repair. The first round of problems was addressed promptly. Most recently I called again as the repeated peeling paint was really unsightly. The first call was taken at the office but no call back. After several weeks. I called the office again and this time I got a call back and a promise to address the problem. Nothing ever happened. We are hiring another outfit to do interior painting and they offered to fix the peeling paint on the front entry way with better paint."

"Overall, they were very responsive and helpful throughout the estimate process. I think some deals look like they would fit a broader need but it is often difficult to assess what needs to be done on your own in advance of purchasing a deal, especially one as extensive as painting the entire exterior of the home, given the risk for wood rot or need for specialty paints, etc."

"He is horrible. He didn’t know how to set a door. He didn’t know how to do electrical. He is not a handyman. He doesn’t know how to do anything. It took him 8 hours to take out a door and put a door in which should be a 3 and a half hour job. It’s not really worth it. I won’t use him again. I even had one of my other handymen who were working on something else to tell him how to set the door properly. It was a complete waste of money. He is a nice guy but he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He got the job done but it took way too long."

"The Bottom Line:

Jose is a pleasure to work with. He communicates well, schedules a time for an inspection and completes the work as planned. We couldn't be happier.

More Detail:

We had a few areas of minor stucco damage (cracks and stucco separating from the house) that needed attention. I tried to make contact with three other contractors listed on Angie's List before reaching out to Jose. The other services either never responded or, once they did, failed to ever arrive.

Jose and his team were great. As described above, Jose did an initial inspection to estimate the cost and date for the work to be performed. He and his team arrived on time and the work done is flawless.

Stucco questions, answered by experts

Stucco applied over brick can last 30 to 50 years or more when correctly applied and properly maintained. Stucco’s lifespan can be shortened by improper application, incorrectly mixed material, lack of preparation before application, and lack of maintenance. To get the most life out of your stucco siding, keep up with maintenance and repair any damage as soon as you discover it.

Choosing between traditional and synthetic stucco depends on your specific needs, budget, and climate. Both options are durable, but synthetic stucco includes an extra layer that makes it more resistant to cracking and a better choice for climates with extreme weather. In hot, dry climates with less rainfall, traditional stucco is a suitable and more affordable option that is less likely to trap moisture. Synthetic stucco also offers more color options and requires less maintenance.

Hiring a professional for stucco repair ensures accurate diagnosis and application of appropriate techniques to prevent further damage. They deliver seamless results that maintain aesthetic appeal and prolong the exterior’s life.

Stucco repair can best be described as a patch. It involves identifying the problem and fixing that specific damage with additional stucco. If no mold infiltration or an underlying leak is causing the damage, repair is most likely all you need.

Remediation, on the other hand, involves removing the existing siding, fixing the underlying cause of the damage, and then reapplying stucco siding for that wall. It’s a more permanent fix that takes longer to complete and, hence, comes with a steeper price tag than repair.

You can use small bits that are up to 3/8 inch in diameter, or larger bits that are 1/2 inch or more in diameter. Make sure the bits you use are coated with carbide or diamond; this information is usually visible on the package. You can also use hole saw bits to drill into stucco.
