"We called Cape Fear Wildlife Control to check our home for possible animal activity in our attic based upon hearing some disturbing noise at night that was reminiscent of a problem that we experienced a decade ago with flying squirrels. The company arrived promptly and conducted a thorough inspection for signs of entry. The inspector (Jim) was extremely professional and most patient in communicating the results of his inspection to my wife and myself. Fortunately, there was no evidence of small animal entry and he attributed the noise to a ventilation duct that was not secured to an exhaust grille located in an exterior soffit that appeared to be generating some wind-induced tapping noise. Needless to say we were relieved to receive his assessment. His honesty was indeed refreshing, since my wife and I are senior citizens and feel somewhat vulnerable to receiving recommendations for work that may not really be needed. Jim is truly an asset to his company and has restored our confidence that there are still contractors out there that adhere to standards of excellence in the highest possible tradition of customer service. Thank you Jim and thank you Cape Fear Wildlife Control for hiring such exceptional people."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

When it comes to keeping birds from doing their business on your porch rails, you have several DIY options and home remedies you can try:

  • Tie a fishing line from one end of the deck post to the other. Birds won’t be able to see the line across the railing, so they can’t land on it.

  • Hang wind chimes close by, which may scare birds away.

  • Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.

No, you shouldn’t have to worry about bats in your yard as long as they don’t make their way inside your house. Typically, bats hang around backyards in order to consume bugs, especially if they’re located in the U.S. Bats that are native to North America can consume more than 500 bugs per hour, so they may actually benefit your yard if mosquitoes are prevalent.

Using audio and visual methods to discourage birds might work initially, but birds tend to acclimate to them over time. While chemical deterrents can show some effectiveness, their results can be inconsistent. Some may dissipate too quickly, and there's a risk they might cause unintended damage to your surroundings. Additionally, birds might become immune or resistant to the impact of such treatments.

Most treatments take 1-3 hours, but severe infestations may require multiple visits.

Costs depend on infestation severity, business size, treatment type, and frequency of service.
