"Zach is a handyman in the true sense of the word in that he can do most anything. I was renovating an inherited house to sell and initially hired Zach to strip wallpaper and paint walls, doors, and trim. The house was a lot of work, and Zach was perfect for continuing to take on a variety of projects, including cleaning gutters, refurbishing damaged doors and frames, stripping old paneling and removing glue before painting, setting off mold bombs, fixing toilets and sink leaks, hanging doors, replacing water heater valves, and completely rebuilding and replacing broken down porch steps. Everyone who has seen the house is impressed. Zach is easygoing, hardworking, and trustworthy. My wife and I will be hiring him again to do some work on our house because we know he’s fair and does great work. You’d be wise to hire Zach."

"We were looking for someone to fabricate a floating staircase and handrails for our remodel project. Mountain Metals arrived quickly and on time to look at our project and estimate the job. I was amazed at how fast the turn around and install was achieved. The finished project fitment was excellent and the welds were superior amongst other similar applications Iâ ve seen. The owner was very polite and helpful figuring out exactly what we needed. Highly recommend"

"First thing off the gate, when Brandon came to do some work on my trailer, he had an excellent attitude and was professional about it in the same sentence. I showed him what needed to be done, which was weld new under support cross members on my trailer, and he started right on the task without hesitation. He worked diligently until the job was complete and from observing his work, there was no corners cut and he made sure it was done right and efficiently. If I ever needed anything welded or fabricated again, I would personally request for Brandon again."

Welding questions, answered by experts

There are a few things you can ask welders before you hire them to get an idea of their experience and ability levels:

  • Are you licensed and certified?

  • How long have you been in the welding business?

  • Do you commonly do the type of welding I need?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for your work?

  • Do you charge by the hour or by the project?

  • How long do you expect my welding project to take?

  • What steps do you take to minimize errors in your work?

Cutting rectangular ductwork requires careful measurements and the right technique. Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark the cutting lines accurately. Tin snips are excellent for straight cuts on smaller ducts. For more extensive or thicker rectangular ducts, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade is effective.

Ensure the duct is well-supported and secure while cutting to prevent wobbling and maintain precision. After cutting, use a metal file to smooth any sharp edges, ensuring safety during installation.

Choosing the right metal fabricator for your project begins with research. Find a reputable fabrication company by searching for reputable contractors in your area, and then reviewing photos of their previous work, customer reviews, and photos of the company’s workshop.

Once you’ve narrowed down the list, contact the companies to ask about the types of metal fabrication projects they specialize and inquire about guarantees and warranties on workmanship. You should also ensure the company uses high-quality material, and ask about the schedule and turnaround time for your proposed project.

Professional metal fabricators typically charge around $70 per hour, but the total cost of your project will depend on several factors. The largest cost drivers are the size, complexity, and design of the project, as well as the price and type of metal used. A good way to estimate the total cost is to multiply the cost of raw materials by four; typically, one-quarter of the total goes toward materials and three-quarters toward labor. Your geographic location can also influence costs, as labor and material prices vary by region.

Yes, you can cut plexiglass by hand using a sharp knife or blade (utility knife, box cutter, glass cutter, etc.).
