"All personnel were curtious and professional. They were able adapt to hidden problems in the foundation. They informed me of what they were doing and why. Area was left clean. I would hire them again."

Small jobs welcome

"Wood Structural/Foundation Repair: 1924 Farm House. Jay is a "work horse!" He's 6'4", a grip of steel, and has the state of Louisiana tattoo prominently he has a big presence. What I experienced first-hand is his ability to calmly explain "redneck construction" vs local building code. He answered all my questions (several times over I interrogate) and he offered me a lot of options to consider (i.e., we bought from an investor who flipped the property). He will state everything you would need to do to bring the property up to current code (we wanted "good enough" to meet our budget). There was no pressure to do additional work. In our case, he was hired to fix our structural repair identified by our structural engineer during the home inspection. He installed a 40 ft support cross beam across the front of the house in a difficult to reach crawl space. He patched holes so rodents wouldn't enter, repaired sister-ed joints, and cut out/replaced wood from termites also in difficult to reach crawl spaces. Initial down payment was very reasonable. The work was done the day after we agreed on pricing and scope of work. The job was completed two days later to my satisfaction by a walk-through with him. Jay has my highest recommendation for performing structural repairs to basements, work ethic, customer service, and attention to detail."

"The contractor was hired to do our project. The craftsmanship is excellent and attention to detail is amazing. They have kept the area clean at all times and very willing to make any necessary or requested changes. My only commplaints would be that there is no communication from them. We call, we text, we email.... but nothing for days, maybe a week. The communication has caused a lot of frustration from this side due to the fact that we are from out of state having this done. The project deadline has been exceeded and we still can not get any information from the builder."

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can always make an existing window bigger, but the job complexity varies widely depending on the location of the window and the framing around it. Exterior walls are always load-bearing, so making windows wider will require structural changes that make for a more complex but doable project. Making windows taller often won’t require structural changes.

Expect excavation below grade, creating a well for access, weatherproofing, and thorough inspections during setup.

A good U-factor for windows is 0.30 or lower, but they can range from 0.20 to 1.20. A general rule of thumb when it comes to the U-factor is that the lower, the better.

Yes, egress windows are grandfathered. However, this comes with some specifications. If you are remodeling a basement or adding a sleeping area, you’ll need to update the egress windows to be up to proper code. But, if you’re leaving your home as is, you do not have to adhere to these requirements.

The proper way to install a window well is to measure the window, dig a hole deeper and wider than the window, place a drainage tube and cap, anchor the well to the foundation, caulk the seam, and backfill the hole. The job requires tools such as a hammer drill and auger and some heavy digging. Proper placement and window well installation are critical to preventing water from leaking into the window.
