"Moved to Holly Springs in 2025, wasn’t certain when the septic tank was last pumped so needed someone to come out and take a look. JJseptic had good reviews, phoned them and got Justin, owner, he was polite and very helpful - even sent me copy of the town record of our septic system - size, layout etc Justin and associate came out , checked tanks and pumped tank and cleaned filter. Told me when next pump out needed. Having moved from a house with a two chamber pumped septic system everything Justin did and said made absolute sense. Felt like I made the right choice picking JJseptic."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

While not strictly necessary for your septic system to operate, septic tank risers are a highly beneficial and wise choice for homeowners. They provide easy access to your tank, which makes regular maintenance, inspections, and addressing issues significantly easier and less labor-intensive. By eliminating the need for repeated excavation to locate the tank, risers can save you money, labor, and energy in the long run. This easy access allows you to proactively manage your septic system, addressing potential problems before they become costly and ensuring the system's longevity. Additionally, some local regulations may require risers, and installing them can help you avoid potential fines or penalties.

You can put yogurt in your septic tank, but it will not increase the bacteria in your septic tank. In other words, it won't harm your tank, but it won't get rid of a septic smell or boost the performance of your septic system. While yogurt contains helpful bacteria, you would need to buy an extraordinary amount of yogurt to make any difference. Adding yogurt is not a helpful or cost-effective strategy.

It only takes a few days for a septic tank to fill with water after a pro has pumped it. This is completely normal, and the water is a vital part of your septic system’s wastewater treatment process. The water that fills your tank days after pumping is not the same as the tank being filled with waste. You shouldn’t have to pump your septic system more than once every three to five years unless you have a tank that’s too small for your home’s water output or there’s a problem with your leach field.

A septic perc test is done by drilling a hole into the ground, filling the hole with water, and testing to see how long it drains. While simple, the test itself provides a great deal of information about your yard. The last thing you want to do is skip a perc test only to discover your yard doesn’t drain sewage effectively.

Yes. Amongst the four most common types of septic tanks—plastic, fiberglass, concrete, and steel—those made of concrete are the most expensive. This is the case for a few reasons, including the fact that they’re very heavy, so pros have to use specialized equipment to install them. However, they’re also incredibly durable, making the price worth it if it’s in your budget.
