"We recently purchased a townhouse in Asheville as a second home to be near our daughter that had recently moved there. The unit had been a rental unit and need several upgrades. We replace the Formica countertops with granite and had to have the faucets replaced and the new sink drains connected. The work was done promptly and the workmanship was excellent. Everyone that we dealt with was professional and pleasant."

"Lee was GREAT!   Professional, friendly, on time, communicative and willing to work with us for anything we  needed to have done.  Very flexible.  We had a couple of new sinks installed recently which were deeper than the ones that came out and he was able to make them work in spite of the original plumbing format for shorter sinks.  Will definitely use him again and recommend him highly.

"The toilet in our guest cabin plugged up and we couldn't get it flowing. Called Best Value Sewer and Drain Cleaning around 5pm and Mr Crawford came right out. We live out in the country and he had to come from an hour away. He knew exactly what to do based on the type of fixture we had. He had everything back in business right away and our out of town guests didn't have to move to the house.

"Fine, despite "Murphy's" best attempt to cause havoc. The front door frame needed to be repaired as well when the threshold and new front door were installed because the spot for the lock was not secure. The guys made sure everything was safe and in good working order. The windows were special order because they had to be inserted into stonework. The company that made the windows did not make them the size specified on the order form. That meant it took longer to find a way to get them to fit into the walls, but the guys cheerfully worked out a way without us needing to wait for new windows to be produced. Our tenants have been very pleased with the improvements. We are also pleased that Handyman Xpress was able to get them installed before the new tenants needed to move in. Made the process much easier for all of us."

"It went well Neal was very professional and the pipe work he installed on our well system was all exposed and looked very nice once it was done. He also left his work area clean when he was finished. I would definitely higher him again."

"What began as a clogged drain turned out to be a much larger problem. Brandon was very professional, knowledgeable and calm throughout all of our interactions. He assessed the problem to be roots in my 97 year old pipes and that a total replacement would be necessary. He worked diligently throughout the Thanksgiving holiday week and his price was very fair. When he was finishing up he noticed a small leak and took care of it immediately. Brandon with Alpha Dog Plumbing is reliable, knowledgeable in his field, willing to work within the client’s availability, and offers quality work at a great rate. I will definitely be calling on him again for any of my home’s needs."

Sink Installation questions, answered by experts

A handyperson with basic plumbing experience can install a bathroom faucet, like the kind of skills you’d need to replace a P-trap or swap out a showerhead. They may not have deep knowledge of local plumbing code, though. If your faucet installation requires work on the pipes behind the wall or under the floor, hire a licensed plumber with the necessary training and licensing.

Because plumbing repairs are wide-ranging in scope, job completion time may vary from a few hours or several days. Simple jobs such as clearing a clog, replacing a garbage disposal, or repairing a toilet will only take an hour or two. Large jobs that require digging up yards and checking pipes may take upward of one or two weeks.

The best option is to alter the plumbing. Moving and centering the drain pipe behind the sink usually does the trick and creates the sleek, minimalist look that pedestal sinks offer. If you don’t want to do any plumbing work, there are a few decorating hacks:

  • Painting the pipes

  • Placing shelves, plants, or baskets in front of the pipes

  • Adding a sink skirt

Natural stone stinks require sealing before installation because they have a porous surface susceptible to staining and damage. Quartz is much denser than natural stone, making it non-porous and resistant to stains or absorption. Because quartz is a composite material, it doesn’t need to be sealed before daily use.

Yes, if you live in a climate with extended periods of frost or snow, it’s best to winterize the sink and avoid potential bursting. Similar to winterizing a garden hose, turn off your water from the source. Once turned off, open the faucet so the remaining water completely drains out. You can also pour a small amount of antifreeze down the sink drain so any trapped water won’t freeze.
