"Todd took a lot of time and energy to teach us about the health and wellbeing of our trees. His love for trees was infectious and inspiring. He very generously allowed a group of amateur arborists to watch and ask questions. It wasnâ t cheap to hire Todd, but the investment in our fruit orchard and also the knowledge we learned will be well worth it!"

"They were an excellent team. We were very satisfied with their work, They replaced shingles, gutters, soffit and stove pipe. They also repaired our concrete block retainer wall. Then moved a huge oak tree and the humongous tree root. Great work, very dependable and very affordable. We were very blessed to find JG Renovations! We highly recommend them for all your projects!"

"Youve heard of a jack of all trades, but you cant be sure youve met one until you hire this man. He doesnt just do a job, he makes art. He took the time to communicate about EVERYTHING we wanted and delivered with nothing less than what we asked for. He even went above and beyond hand cutting and measuring the wood to deliver a truly clean flush look to our yard. Our family is so beyond happy with the way our fence looks as well as the security it provides for our newborn and our dogs. He was one man, but he got it done in less than a week and he was the person directly discussing what he would be doing as he was doing it. We fully intend to hire him next year for our next big project, and you should definitly consider him for yours."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Some trees, such as silver maples, birches, sycamores, and scotch pines, shed their bark naturally. If your tree is not one that does this, it might have fallen prey to pests, fungi, or diseases. It could also simply be suffering from an extreme weather change, such as a snowstorm or heat wave. If you’re still stumped, consulting with a pro can help you diagnose your tree’s specific problem.

Unfortunately, palm tree stumps are one of the most difficult types to remove due to how their roots grow. Unlike other trees, palm tree roots grow horizontally and vertically. Palm tree roots grow as deep as three feet into the ground, although soil and growing conditions could mean they go as far as 50 inches into the earth.

If you want to be able to repurpose the grass in the area where you removed a stump later, you’ll have to dig quite deep—and perhaps wide—to trim away all the roots.

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.

Trees aren't big fans of moving, and they do go into shock during a transplant. Although most carefully thought-out tree transplants see the tree recover from the shock just fine, there is always a risk of having an unsuccessful move. Proper preparation, timing, and diligent aftercare are crucial to minimize the risks when transplanting a tree.

You should prune ornamental trees once every other year after the fruit has matured and begun to drop. You should also prune out dead branches whenever you see them. Pruning too often can stimulate more growth, especially in faster growing varieties like Bradford pears.
