"Great response from initial call to completion of work. Plumber was knowledgeable and corrected a drain pipe issue. He needed a connection part and rather than come back the next day, he went to a local plumbing supply house and came back the same day so that we had our faucet working. Cost a bit more than we expected because our disposal was old and a connection part was missing and part was unavailable so we had to get a new disposal installed and this increased our cost by almost 200. Nevertheless the responsiveness and professionalism and work completion in a thorough and timely manner was important so we will hire again"

Small jobs welcome

"Matthew was willing to fit me into a busy schedule as I had a toilet leaking from the waterline connection. My second toilet also had problems. I called 4 other plumbers and only Matthew actually answered his phone, and I never heard back from the others. Matthew is courteous, friendly, and gets the job done in a timely manner, Nice work, no mess left behind. Highly recommended."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Local permit inspections dictate your project timeline. In Columbus, scheduling an inspection takes time, meaning permitted plumbing work requires multiple visits. Additionally, diagnosing private well or septic issues involves separate specialists. If your home has older pipes, a contractor must source specialty parts from outside the area. Finally, repairing burst pipes after a hard freeze involves emergency stops, drying, and follow-up repairs.

Helpful?

Homeowners consistently underestimate the time required for permit issuance and inspection scheduling in Columbus. Residents also overlook long lead times for contractor availability in the rural market. Adding fixtures changes flow demand, which negatively impacts your existing well pump and pressure tank. Finally, winter weather poses a serious risk, so you must plan for temporary pipe protection during multi-day plumbing projects.

Helpful?

Watch out for contractors who refuse to provide their state license number. A professional quote for plumbing must include the required local permit process. Be cautious of vague scopes regarding well and septic boundaries, which cause disputes. Additionally, avoid professionals who pressure you to skip inspections or ignore NC code amendments. Unpermitted work creates serious resale problems and voids your insurance coverage.

Helpful?

Homeowners frequently underestimate freeze risks by failing to insulate pipes in exterior walls or vented crawl spaces. Another mistake is starting unpermitted DIY plumbing on septic-connected homes, overloading the system's capacity. Residents connecting to Columbus town water also forget to properly abandon old wells. Finally, ignoring hard water quality when installing new fixtures leads to rapid mineral buildup and premature equipment failure.

Helpful?

Ensure every family member knows exactly where to shut off the water during an emergency. Keep crawl space hatches securely barricaded during plumbing work to protect children and pets from local wildlife. In older homes, ask your contractor to check for lead solder before disturbing pipes. Always test your well water for bacterial contamination after repairs to keep your family safe in NC.
