"Ducts were cleaned as we contracted for. When they finished the HVAC ducts they said they would do the dryer vent as a complimentary service. I told them I had recently cleaned it and they would probably not get much lint out of the vent. I was amazed at all they got out and it was at no additional charge."

However, if you need to cool multiple zones in your house, your mini-split can use as much as 2,000 watts per hour. Condensation forms when warmer, outside air combines with cooler air in your ductwork. This can happen when there are leaks in your air ducts, your HVAC system has a dirty air filter, or there’s a lack of insulation around the ducts. To prevent it from happening, replace your HVAC filters as directed. Also, once every five years, hire a local air duct cleaner to clean and inspect them.

There are many recognizable symptoms of AC compressor failure. They include loud banging noises, hot air being continually circulated in your home despite running the AC at full blast, uneven airflow and cooling, and electrical issues like constant surges due to the compressor working overtime. While some of these symptoms, like uneven cooling, can have other root causes, they are common indicators of compressor problems.

The size window AC you need depends on the BTU and the size of the room you’re cooling. For a room with 8-foot ceilings, look for about 20 BTU per square foot of the room. For example, a 12-by-12-foot room should have an air conditioner with 2,880 BTU. You can buy something slightly more powerful, but don’t overshoot the BTU for a small room, or you’ll waste energy and have higher bills.
