"After the repair was done I noticed a leak in my bathroom ceiling where one of the roof vents were replaced. I called the Subcontractor Brian on a Saturday morning. The weather was cold and raining. He was at my house within the hour up on the roof and fixed the leak. I havent had any leaks since. I would hire Brain the Subcontractor again."

"Ryan and his team arrived on time on the scheduled date.  They were very polite and friendly.  They started right away and prepared the sub-floor on one side of the house and moved the furniture to the other.  They planed each joint in the sub-floor to ensure a smooth transition between sub-floor panels.  It took them one day to finish half of the downstairs.  Then they moved the furniture back and started removing the linoleum and backer board.  They stayed late the second day to help me out since I needed to reinstall the plumbing fixtures that night before I left town.  They finished up the third day and we paid the final balance once my wife reviewed the floors.  They were great to work with and I would recommend them to anyone.

"Very knowledgeable and professional owner estimated our remodeling job. Company was  responsive, but pricing was comparatively too high. I will call on this company for new/repair jobs in the future, if needed, because I had a  very good impression of their ability to deliver a high quality product.

"Because of well-documented evidence (and a class-action lawsuit) regarding the occurrence of spontaneous leaks with polybutylene plumbing, we decided to have our entire house re-plumbed before we were faced with a leak which could cause major damage.  Since the job would include not only plumbing work, but also sheetrock repair, some tile repair (to re-plumb our tub), and repainting, I felt that it would best to hire a general contractor.  We also decided to have our hot water heater relocated from the attic to the garage at the same time.  Of the 4 contractors we requested estimates from, Chester was the only one who came out with his plumber (Jeff DeSantis) to look at the job.  Together, they looked through the entire house, from crawl space to the attic, to try to figure out the existing plumbing (which, of course, is not visible, except for kitchen and bathroom fixtures) and work out a plan to tie into those lines and where new lines would be placed.  Before they left, and before I had an estimate, I had a pretty good idea of where demolition was going to be needed, and what to expect in the way of any inconveniences  while work was in progress.
The work started and ended on the agreed-upon dates (the end date was a bit of an estimate, but turned out to be exactly what was planned).  Jeff seemed to be a bit of a perfectionist, which was fine by me.  He plumbed the house to improve the flow of hot water so that it (hot water) would get to the most distant parts of the house more quickly than previously.  The guys who cut the sheet rock (walls and ceiling in various rooms throughout the house) did an amazing job keeping the dust to a minimum ... same with the sheet rock repair after the plumbing work was completed.  We had only 36 hours without water ... we've had worse experiences post some of the hurricanes here over the last 20 years.  Over a period of 9 working  days, we experienced only 2 issues, one of which was truly quite minor, when I was told that insulation under the house, which had been removed to access and replace some of the existing old piping, had been put back with new fiberglass batts that I had supplied, and I was asked to inspect that portion of the job ... I found that a section in the crawl space under the first floor, had been left completely without any fiberglass batts and was completely exposed to the outside ambient temperatures.  I'm still baffeled as to how/why the worker who was on that part of the job could have felt that it was ok to leave that area without any insulation.  Chester, upon seeing it, obviously agreed that that part of the job would need to be re-done, which was far more difficult to do than what it probably seems like to the reader (for reasons not worth explaining), but re-done it was, I think the next day, the correct way.  Second issue which we experienced concerned replacement of some tile which had to be cut out in order to reach the plumbing for our master bathroom tub.  The replacement tiles which Chester had obtained were not a very good color match for what was already in place.  My concern is not so much the color mis-match itself, as it is that I was not told that they were unable to find a better color match until the guy doing the tiles was already putting them into place.  I would have much preferred to know about it ahead of time, than find out after the tile guy was about to put the off-color tiles in place.  Speaking with Chester about it, he indicated that he had done a thorough search in the New Hanover area, trying to find a better color match, but also stated that if I could find tiles that were a better color match, he would be more than willing to come back and have them installed, with the cost of that work included in the original contract price. Much to my surprise, I was able to find some tiles which do have a closer color match ... they come from a well known business here in New Hanover, so I do have to wonder why Chester wasn't able to find them himself. (???) Nevertheless, they are being installed today, 3.5 months after the job was initially begun.  All the workers were quite considerate of our presence while they did they work, they cleaned up every day, and I had no real concerns regarding their activity or presence while we tried to go about our daily lives around them.  All in all, the work went quite will, with much less disruption of our daily routines than what I had expected.  Overall grade would be an A minus (minus, because of the tile issue).

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.
