"I had an urgent request to get a permit across the line and Pedro was on his A-game and helped me within hours. Very professional, well documented, etc. Other structural engineers I hired only gave me headaches. I'd use Pedro again any day. Thank you very much, and glad to be in business with you!"

Small jobs welcome

Offers commercial services

I am a licensed Professional Engineer providing structural engineering services for residential and small commercial projects. I work with homeowners, contractors, and design professionals to help move projects through the permit process by providing structural calculations, drawings, evaluations, and engineering letters as needed.\n\nIn-person structural inspections are available in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia. Remote structural consulting is available in Delaware and North Carolina.\n\nTypical projects include load-bearing wall removal, beam and header sizing, additions, decks, foundation concerns, and framing evaluations. My goal is to provide practical, code-compliant structural solutions that are clear, efficient, and tailored to the project.

"We called Legacy once again after using them in the past.  What great people they are.  We met and covered all the details, and they even offered us advice on how to do a few things we had not thought of and how to do them more economically.  That's what we have always liked about these folks.  They didn't try to sell us on anything.....they educated us and never made us feel like we were dumb.
Even though they had done a great job for us in the past, we did shop around a little and got a few other estimates just to be sure we were going to get what we paid for.  Most of the contractors we called never called us back, and those that did call back could never seem to keep the appointment.  So, in the end we settled (once again) on Legacy.  I can honestly say that the professionalism, honesty, and care they took with our home was first rate.
We knew the job we wanted done would not be easy from a structural point of view, but after much research and input Legacy came up with a plan that not only worked, but is stunning.  The views they created for us is breathtaking.  The attention to every design detail was impeccable and the folks that worked on our job are simply artists.
We are honored to write a review for Legacy.  We will call them time and again as our needs change.

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Asheboro’s humid climate and clay-rich soils require special attention during structural engineering projects. High rainfall increases the risk of foundation shifting, so proper drainage and moisture barriers are crucial. Wind loads from seasonal storms should be factored into roof and wall designs. Scheduling major work in late spring or early summer helps avoid weather delays and ensures materials cure properly, leading to more reliable, long-lasting results for your home.

Helpful?

When hiring a structural engineering pro in Asheboro, prioritize those with experience addressing local soil movement and humidity. Check for up-to-date certifications, strong references from nearby projects, and comprehensive insurance coverage. It’s important they understand NC building codes and have a track record coordinating with local contractors. Always request detailed project proposals and review portfolios of similar structural assessments or foundation repairs completed in the area.

Helpful?

Completing structural engineering projects in Asheboro, such as foundation repairs or structural assessments, can significantly enhance your home’s value and resale appeal. Buyers in Asheboro often seek properties with documented structural integrity and recent inspections. Upgrades like basement waterproofing or reinforced framing provide peace of mind and can make your listing stand out in a competitive market, especially when supported by professional plans or transferable warranties.

Helpful?

In Asheboro, combining structural engineering work with other upgrades—like foundation inspection, crawl space encapsulation, or roof reinforcement—can streamline your renovation process. Coordinating these projects helps minimize disruptions, reduces the number of required permits, and may allow for more efficient scheduling with local contractors. For example, pairing a structural assessment with HVAC or plumbing upgrades can help address hidden issues and maximize your investment during the construction season.

Helpful?

In Asheboro, structural engineering projects benefit from materials that address local climate and soil conditions. For foundations, use high-strength concrete with moisture-resistant admixtures and reinforced with Grade 60 rebar. Engineered lumber and pressure-treated wood are ideal for framing, while galvanized steel connectors help prevent corrosion from humidity. Incorporating vapor barriers and proper drainage systems ensures long-term durability, especially given Asheboro’s clay soils and frequent rainfall.
