"It went great! I had a huge problem with water standing to close to my home they fixed my issue, and also found a path for the water to drain out. I’d highly recommend them with any dirt work problems."

"I called Montana Basement Solutions when we discovered mold in our basement. We were stressed and worried about the safety of our children in the home. When I called, the receptionist quickly put me in touch with Rich, who talked me through the process and helped give me information about what I could do prior to having someone come out. He set up a time when one of the guys would be close to town and waved the travel fee since he would be in this area anyway. He was kind, knowledgable and made me feel like he really wanted to help us. Wynn came out a few days later and gave us tons of information. He walked us through what we needed to do and was willing to spend an exorbitant amount of time, late into the evening, prior to a long drive home, explaining everything we needed to know about our problem. He addressed every one of our concerns and answered all of our questions in depth. He was friendly, knowledgable and professional. I would highly recommend this company. From the very first phone call, I have been so pleased with the customer service I have received. I had called 4 other companies prior to and after talking with Montana Basement Solutions, 2 who said they would come out two days later ( never heard from them) and 1 that still has not called back (and I have left 2 messages). I am so grateful for the time Wynn gave to us and did I mention , he did all of this free of charge? He also gave me the answer to my problem and it did not require me using their services. If you have a mold problem, I would start with Montana Basement Solutions."

"It was a fantastic job. They listen to everything we instructed them. They were safe. They did a good job in cleaning after they finished. They were on time. They came when they said they would. And I felt their pricing was reasonable for the work."

"I only use James when I need some work done to my house. He responds fast, gets the work done quicker than just about anyone else I've ever used and seems very concerned with leaving his customers happy."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes. Black stains are more than an eyesore. Some black stains can pose health concerns, especially for those with asthma, allergies, or other respiratory conditions. Some stains can also damage the brick’s structural integrity, harming the mortar and resulting in more expensive repairs.

When painting brick, each application method has pros and cons. Spraying is much faster but may not penetrate the porous surface of the bricks. Rolling is effective for getting paint into the bricks but doesn't work as well on the mortar. Brushing is very time-consuming and also won't penetrate beyond the surface. For the best results, a combination of spraying and rolling is often recommended. If you use a roller, choose a thick option (at least a half-inch) and ensure the paint gets into all the crevices for even coverage.

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

It’s called cobblestone because it’s made of stones that are “cobbed” together. A cob is a term that refers to rounded lumps. Originally, cobblestone streets were made from pebbles and stones gathered from riverbeds that had been rounded over time by the passage of water. The term has nothing to do with a cobbler, which is the term for someone who makes and fixes shoes.

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.
