My name is Aleksey Levchenko, I’m a local licensed plumber specializing in new construction. I started to noticed more and more often that radon gas is in high quantities in most homes and needs to be taken care of. After doing some research, not only is it a concern but the availability and price to mitigate and test radon is not reasonable in our area. I decided to get nationally certified to measure and test radon and in the case of high quantities, my experience as a subcontractor plumbed allows me to mitigate in the most professional way.

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

If your home has a sump pit, you can integrate it with a radon mitigation system. You can accomplish this by sealing the pump cover with an airtight lid that accommodates radon vent pipes and sump pump hoses. This allows the vent pipe to redirect the radon gas outside of your home.

The fan that pulls the radon out of the air needs to run continuously, so you may see an increase in your electric bill once you install the mitigation system. Additionally, you may see an increase in your heating or cooling bills, as the fan can cause some loss of hot or cool air.

If high radon levels are detected, steps include sealing entry points, installing a mitigation system, and retesting the air regularly to ensure reduced levels.

While DIY testing is possible, abatement generally requires professional installation to ensure efficacy and meet safety standards.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is present everywhere, complete avoidance is impossible. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking preventative measures if your home's radon levels are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.
