"I can’t say enough good things about working with Peter Harris. We had a construction emergency and Peter took care of it skillfully and efficiently. Just after we went under contract to sell a family member’s condo, a water leak ruined the flooring and some cabinetry throughout the home. Immediately we struggled to work with the insurance company and find a contractor. Sourcing a reliable craftsman in Bozeman’s market seemed nearly impossible, and if we didn’t get the damage fixed quickly and competently, the water was likely to cause even more damage and we may have lost our buyer. "CAUTION!!!!!! NEVER USE Bob's Plumbing. He came 4 hrs early while I was gone. I agreed he could go in an fix my slow draining kitchen sink and replace the garbage disposal (I purchased). I agreed he could go inside without me there. MISTAKE!!!! He called me and yelled at me about using "draino" and that the garbage disposal I purchased was junk (purchased at Costco). I returned home, to a huge bill for $325.00 to unclog my drain and hook up MY garbage disposal. He NEVER communicated this to me, nor do I know how long he was at my house. He took my bath towels to clean up the water and put the soaked towels in my garage in a pile. I've spoke to his wife, Jenelle Beane about my experience. She was rude and threatened to charge me an additional $30.00 late fee if I didn't put the check in the mail today. The services were rendered on 9/25 and today is 10/10...definItely not late. CUSTOMER SERVICE & PRICE is HORRIBLE.] BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!"

It’s unlikely that hard water on its own could cause substantial hair loss or damage, though it’s true that bathing in hard water can cause your scalp to feel itchy or flaky and might dull your hair’s natural shine. Using high-quality shampoo and conditioner or buying a whole-home water softener can decrease these issues.

If your water softener repair is fairly straightforward, like a simple filter replacement, then you can probably do it yourself with little risk. However, anything beyond a simple fix should be addressed by someone with extensive plumbing expertise to avoid costly water softener problems, like leaks. 

That said, even simple problems can be complicated to diagnose, particularly if your water softener is attached to a whole-house treatment system. So, unless you feel absolutely certain that the problem is an easy fix that you can take on yourself, it's probably best to hire a plumber to diagnose and fix the problem.

A good hardness level for drinking water can vary based on personal preferences, but an ideal level is 3.5 to 7 GPG. This means your water isn’t soft or hard. However, some people prefer the “fresh” taste from the minerals in hard water, while others like the smoother, “slippery” texture of soft water.

It’s not a good idea to oversize your water softener. Doing so will mean the tank doesn’t get full, which can lead to channeling. This leads to a large portion of the resin beads not being utilized and the beads at the bottom of the tank being overused. Over time, this will reduce the efficiency of your system, not to mention that the upfront cost of an oversized softener is unnecessarily high. If you have a timed regeneration cycle rather than a demand-based one, you’ll also spend far more on replacing salt than you need to.

You should not use a water conditioner with a water softener because a water conditioner changes the chemistry of the water and causes the ion exchange in a softener to be ineffective. Choose a water softener if you have hard water or well water, and use a water conditioner if you need to remove certain contaminants.
