"Needed professional to drill screw holes into porcelain tile to hang shower tower. Small job but local tile installers & plumbers wouldn't do it because of liability of cracking tiles or hitting electrical/plumbing behind wall despite my knowing location of electrical/plumbing/studs. I've never drilled porcelain tile & watched lots of YouTube instructional videos but didn't want to risk cracking either due to my lack of experience. I found Bill on Angie and he responded immediately and continued to contact me for a convenient time to do job as I was traveling. Bill showed up on time & did job quickly & professionally with correct diamond porcelain tile bits and knew how to keep bits cool while drilling. No cracks! Shower is hung. Happy! Really nice guy too! He's our new goto handyman."

"Bill and his entire crew were both friendly and extremely competent and professional. They installed porcelain wood look tile in our living space and gave us a walk-in tile shower in our master bath. Awesome work at a fair price. Book them if you can!!"

"Jeremy had prompt communication and was able to install the new tile earlier than planned. He did a very nice tile job and was able to accommodate items I asked for in a follow up. I wasnâ t charged more than the estimate. He also told me not to hesitate to call if there were any issues. Overall a good experience."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Tiling can be DIY with the right tools and skills, but challenges like ensuring evenness and appropriate adhesion often warrant professional handling.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

When tiling over concrete, you should install an anti-fracture membrane after the concrete has been prepared. The anti-fracture membrane acts as a moisture barrier and should be installed to protect the tiles from moisture which helps maintain their integrity. Often, Ditra, a brand name, is used interchangeably with moisture barrier.
