"I hired Keith for a complete home renovation. This was a difficult job that required in depth knowledge of all aspects of a remodel. Keith is HONEST, a perfectionist , hard working, and very professional. He had the skills and talents to complete a difficult remodel while delivering a result that made me proud of my home! Great listener and open to collaboration while giving sound and good advice which lead to a beautiful project! Keith is an artisan that worked with everything from hand cut rock to detailed tile as well as structural repairs. Patient and reliable a rare find in his industry! Since my major remodel Keith has worked on my parents home as well as my Brother and Sister in Laws homes! Highly recommend Keith!"

Small jobs welcome

"Mike, Tony and crew did just what we talked about at the beginning. They did it while having to move a lot of stuff around in the garage throughout the project, and left it all clean and able to park our cars in the garage each night - a real benefit. They sheet rocked, taped and painted the whole large garage and installed a pull-down stair to the attic space above and made it usable for some storage. They also tiled the garage entry to the house and added a shelf area above a staircase from the garage to our lower level. After all was done, they cleaned and moved all the shelving units we had in their back in place, and took quite a bit we decided to get rid of to the dump. All the while keeping us informed about schedule and progress while being respectful and friendly. Jim"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.

You can let the tile sit without grout. Don’t panic if there’s a delay between installing the tiles and grouting. A substantial stoppage isn't a problem, provided you keep the tile surface clear of dust and debris. Also, avoid walking over less stable ungrouted floor tiles as they are more prone to premature cracking and shifting.

The cost depends on the type of natural stone. High-end stones can cost as much as porcelain, but it depends on the specific material. For example, the cost of flagstone pavers is typically $2 to $6 per square foot, which is much more budget-friendly than porcelain. Outdoor slate tile can cost as much as $35 per square foot, which is about the same as porcelain.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

The best trowel for penny tile is a 3/16-inch-by-5/32-inch V-notch trowel. Because of the small size of the penny tile, you want a trowel with small notches that can lay a thin layer of mortar on the surface you’re tiling. If the notches are too wide, you risk applying too thick of a layer of mortar, and it can squeeze out between the penny tiles.
