Asphalt driveways are less expensive to install, but concrete driveways will add more value to your home over time. Because concrete is more durable and has a longer lifespan than asphalt, it’s considered a more desirable driveway material. Both materials will add more value than a gravel driveway, but concrete wins out due to its strength and longevity.

Pool concrete or gunite can take several weeks to cure, or an average of 30 days, before workers can resume construction. You should water new concrete by spraying it five to 10 times per day for the first seven days. This process of moist curing allows the concrete to become as strong as possible to prevent cracks and weak concrete. Moist-cured concrete is 50% stronger than concrete that was not sprayed with water during the first week. The only exception is if you pour concrete in the winter. Then, spraying with water is not recommended.

If your concrete stains are green in color, it indicates the presence of mold or algae—which you should address right away. If left unattended, mold will spread to other areas throughout the home. However, be careful not to disturb mold on indoor concrete surfaces and work with a local mold remediation specialist for specialized care. Once free from mold and algae, seal your concrete to eliminate pores and gaps.
