"The radon mitigation unit was installed quickly and I was impressed with the crew. After installation, I found my refrigerator was not working. Called an electrician who had to fix the outlet which blew out due to the installation of the mitigating unit. Also, the electrician told me that the unit was installed with the wrong gauge of wiring to the unit and had to replace it to make it up to code. Although Matt repaid me for my out of pocket fixes to his work, he never did come back and finish the final phase which was to test the mitigation unit although contacted on several occasions. I will say this, nice guy, but I think he is so busy he does not know which project to tackle next and forgets that he still has some others left hanging."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Services test for allergens, mold, VOCs, and carbon monoxide levels to ensure a healthy indoor environment.

If high radon levels are detected, steps include sealing entry points, installing a mitigation system, and retesting the air regularly to ensure reduced levels.

Avoid opening windows and keep doors closed during testing to obtain accurate readings.

The natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water can cause radon to appear in a home. The gas seeps into homes through cracks in foundations, walls, or floors, as well as through gaps around pipes or construction joints. Radon levels are influenced by soil composition, building materials, and ventilation. Poorly sealed or airtight homes can trap radon, allowing it to accumulate.

The only way to determine if you have a radon problem in your home is to have professional testing done. You can buy DIY radon test kits, but these are sometimes inaccurate in certain temperatures and humidity levels, and they don’t paint the entire picture in terms of your radon exposure. Scheduling testing once every two to five years is best. You can also look out for the following symptoms, which, according to the American Cancer Society, are symptoms of radon exposure:

  • Shortness of breath

  • Cough

  • Tightness in the chest

  • Difficulty swallowing

  • Hoarseness
