Small jobs welcome

"Do yourself a favor, Just call Nick at Premium Insulation!!! He gets to you fast does top notch work and for a VERY reasonable price! The house that he insulated for me is 10 years old and the large master bathroom and closet ran 4-6 degrees hotter than the rest of the house. I tried everything to make those rooms cooler, which is way too many things to list, to no avail the rooms stayed noticeably warmer. One day it dawned on me that I had this same exact problem in 2 previous houses I owned. I thought, surely not again, so I looked at the placard that insulation companies staple up in the attic when a new house is insulated. This placard shows the name of the company, the date, how many square feet of attic space they insulated and the name of the actual person who did the job. Once I saw the name of the company I KNEW what was going on! I quickly grabbed my step ladder and felt the ceilings in both of those hot rooms and they were hot, not warm, HOT!!! This means that there is no insulation, whatsoever, in the attic in those places!!! To confirm this I went into the attic and squeezed my chubby body back into that area and sure enough, NO INSULATION!! Just blank Sheetrock ceilings that the original insulation installer attempted to hide with mounds of insulation to conceal the 2 rooms that were hard to get to. SAME EXACT THING THEY HAD DONE ON 2 OTHER HOUSES I PREVIOUSLY OWNED!!! I contacted this so-called company XXXXXXXX to inform them of what had happened to me for the 3rd TIME to see if they would do anything about it. The lady I spoke to admitted that the insulation technician whose name was on the placard had indeed been an employee there. I asked if they were going to do anything about it and she stated, "If you think we're gonna come finish the job for free that's not gonna happen!" I told her it wouldn't be for free since they were paid in FULL when it was done 10 years ago!! She stated that the "boss" would call me. I asked if he really would call and she said, absolutely. Well, it's approaching a week now and still no call from the "boss" at XXXXXXXXXX. I'm just glad I got on Home Advisor and found Nick at Premium Insulation!! He got to me in 2 days and now the entire house is cool!! I also found the flooring contractors I am going to use from Home Advisor! Thank you Nick and Home Advisor!!"

"Koala was great, they suggested an alternative solution which was priced much better than the doom and gloom contractors that bid before them. I would hire them again."

"Performed insulation work on our home. Vacuumed out the 25 year old blown in insulation on day one, then sprayed in foam for the whole roof to include the attached garage, and cleaned up afterwards. When there was confusion of the work they performed (my fault) Lee called me up to see if we were satisfied and was willing to do more to make me happy, but this was not necessary after he explained the work performed and I agreed that all was good. They came in on the week promised, delivered what was expected, and at a very competitive price. Also for veterans, they do give a veterans discount, so don't forget to ask."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Mold can grow on garage ceiling insulation, which is why it’s important to install a vapor barrier behind the insulation and keep the space cooled and heated as you would your living area. Doing so will more or less eliminate the risk of mold growing on your garage ceiling insulation. You can also install a self-draining dehumidifier to help remove moisture, or opt for a foam board insulation or spray foam insulation that won’t harbor moisture and mold.

Most heat in a garage is lost through air leaks in windows, doors, and walls. This is especially true if the walls are uninsulated, which is common in garages. Consider insulating your garage before installing a garage heater to ensure the heat it generates isn’t wasted, making it less efficient.

A vapor barrier keeps moisture out of the crawl space, while insulation reduces the amount of unconditioned air—and sometimes moisture—that enters the space. Coupling a vapor barrier with insulation can help prevent humidity and related moisture damage in a crawl space while also making your home more energy-efficient. Just be sure to use insulation that won’t get damaged from moisture, like rigid foam board or expanding spray foam insulation.

If you have access to the foundation walls, adding spray foam insulation to your existing unfinished basement or crawl space is straightforward. Replacing existing insulation in your unfinished attic space is possible after removing the old insulation. However, spray foam insulating an existing wall after the drywall is in place isn’t possible unless you remove most of the drywall.

The lifespan of crawl space insulation depends on how well you maintain your insulation and the type of insulation. Fiberglass will need replacing every 15 to 20 years on average if you don't have a vapor barrier in place. If you do have vapor barriers in place, then your insulation could last much longer. Spray foam insulation can last anywhere from 80 to 100 years.
