"The items shipped were all in working order. The items were easily installed via a sticky tape attached to all the sensors. Some, like the motion detector, were just placed on a flat surface;ie. fireplace mantle. All worked correctly. The remote door sensors are great;I use them to turn off / on the alarm system before entering or after leaving the house. The control unit besides handling the security system , displays local weather - which is handy."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

White, chalky staining on exterior brick indicates water infiltration from failed tuckpointing. Persistent rust inside the firebox or water stains on your ceiling mean previous flashing or cap repairs failed to withstand Oxford storms. Musty odors during humid summers point to an improperly sealed damper. Recurring gas ignition failures require immediate professional fireplace service to ensure your system meets state safety standards.

Helpful?

Your home is a prime candidate for gas log service if you have an existing natural gas line or plan a propane conversion. Older Oxford properties with traditional masonry fireplaces easily accommodate vented sets. Newer subdivisions with zero-clearance fireplaces require specifically rated units. Because Mississippi humidity degrades mortar over time, hire a certified professional to inspect your chimney and confirm its structural integrity before starting your project.

Helpful?

Oxford experiences high humidity and intermittent winter freezes, which accelerate mortar deterioration, brick spalling, and rust in your chimney. Spring storms and heavy tree canopies also leave debris that clogs chimney caps. Because winters are mild, many homeowners delay fireplace service until a fall rush. Schedule your inspections in late summer to avoid seasonal backlogs and keep your home safe.

Helpful?

Humidity management is the most critical factor for long-lasting gas log service. The damp climate in Oxford accelerates corrosion and causes moisture infiltration inside chimneys. A properly sealed chimney flue prevents structural deterioration and structural failures. You must also schedule an annual pre-season servicing every October to clear out insect debris. Hiring a licensed contractor guarantees your setup meets state safety codes and ensures reliable performance across Mississippi winters.

Helpful?

Successful gas log service relies on corrosion-resistant materials. Choose stainless steel or powder-coated steel burner components to withstand high moisture levels during the long Oxford off-season. Select refractory ceramic logs rated for intense heat cycling. If you upgrade your chimney liner, use flexible stainless steel for maximum durability. Ensure all gas connectors carry proper safety listings to meet strict Mississippi building codes and keep your property safe.
