"While i didnt have Mr Hall complete my repair. I did have a service call with him. He was very thorough, and seemed very knowledgeable on the electrical issues i was having. I will most likely be hiring him again in the futurw for some other repairs that i need done. I believe that his service fee was very reasonable for the after hours call he made to my home."

"Jason did a great job servicing my ceiling fans, some of which were over 40 years old. He was knowledgeable, prompt, gave me a good price, and was able to repair my favorite old fan. I'm keeping his card handy, and am recommending OG Electric highly!"

"She said that she couldn’t do the deal for the price I paid for the deal. She said she'd cancel the deal and she'd just sell me a different deal. The quality of the work was poor, and the owner came back herself and worked for 6 hours; she raised the quality of the work to OK. It was frustrating overall, but she did come the next day as I was trying to get the house ready to show."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

You can take a few steps to prolong the life of your holiday lights. Make sure to replace burnt-out bulbs as quickly as possible to avoid overloading the rest of the circuit and knocking out more lights. Before packing them up each year, plug each strand into the wall to confirm everything is still working. Wrap the lights carefully back into their original packaging or something similar—winding a strand tightly together or leaving it to hang loose in a storage bin can lead to frayed or damaged wiring.

Cold weather can cause older incandescent Christmas lights to fail by causing cracks in the finish or the glass itself. Modern LED lights are affected in the opposite way and perform even better as the temperature drops.

Yes, you can try removing and replacing each individual light bulb one at a time until you find the problem bulb—just be prepared for it to take a while. The bulb tester is worth the investment if you don’t have a lot of extra time to spare or need to test several strands of lights.

While Christmas lights are a wonderful way to light up your home during the holiday season, they don’t have a long lifespan. Most incandescent Christmas light bulbs are designed to last between 1,000 and 1,500 hours—or about one to three holiday seasons. More durable LED bulbs should last about 10 times as long.

If you need help with your holiday decorating, the first step is determining your lighting and decor needs to narrow down your pro options. For example, if you want a custom outdoor light display with all of the bells and whistles, you’ll likely need to hire a local holiday light installer who specializes in that service. But if you only need to hang some lights inside in hard-to-reach places, consider hiring a handyperson or an interior decorator instead. It’s best to contact at least three different companies for quotes and to find out what services they offer.
