"Steve and his coworker scheduled my project for Friday morning, June 17. They announced that they were on their way and arrived, as scheduled. They immediately went to work and did phase I (remove Pergo and lay ceramic tile) in no time. It was done all so quickly, a testament to how these 2 folks work well together with Steve measuring and his coworker cutting the tiles, to perfection. Steve told me he would return the next morning for Phase II, grouting and toilet replacement. He arrived right on time the next day and again went right to work. Again, he was done in no time. Steve cleaned up after himself, and I had to do absolutely nothing. His work was excellent and we are very happy with the final project. My only suggestion to Steve and his crew would be to wear a mask, at least when doing the initial meeting of the customer, in these days of COVID. When he was working in the powder room there was more than ample distance between us. Just a suggestion. Again, we are extremely happy with the job done and I would recommend Pete Anderson (and Steve) to everyone."

The installation looks great and works fine. (cost below is for this job) This is the third, and smallest, job that Above and Beyond has done for us. The others included installing retrofitted ceiling lights for our den. This was a huge job, and we love the results. They also installed an outdoor motion activating light system and another bathroom light fixture. These required some additional wiring. All work was done expertly, neatly and professionally."

Over time, your septic tank can accumulate a buildup of sludge at the bottom of the tank. If left unpumped and uncleaned, the sludge will back up into your pipes and home, causing failure and extensive (and smelly) damage. Repairs to your septic system can be costly, which is why regular maintenance is required. The bacteria already present in your septic system should be enough to break down solids in a properly maintained septic tank. However, if you’re in a DIY mood, you can try adding (well-mashed) rotten tomatoes to help the good bacteria fulfill their duty. Just make sure you give them a couple hours to work after flushing them down.

If there’s a problem with your sewage system, you might notice water pooling on the ground around the tank, which could indicate an overflow. Clogged and sluggish drains or foul smells coming from your plumbing are also signs that there might be a blockage in your septic system.

It is generally safe to stay in a house with sewer gas for a short time, even though short-term exposure is unpleasant. However, prolonged inhalation can cause headaches, nausea, or respiratory irritation. High levels of methane—which is in sewer gas—can pose an explosion risk in enclosed spaces. Ventilate the area and call a pro if you smell sewer gas or experience related health symptoms.

Most households will need to pump their septic tank every three to five years. If you have a smaller tank or more people living in your home, you’ll likely be on the lower end of this spectrum (with less time between pumpings)—and vice versa if you have a bigger tank or live alone.
