Ithaka exists as your reliable home repair specialist carrying out the burden of repairs or remodels so you can focus on you. From fixing a cabinet door, hanging paintings or painting a fence to installing new flooring, remodeling a kitchen or bath, we will alleviate the stress, anxiety and burdens that come with your physical space of your home, rentals or business. A leaking faucet or that hole in the drywall is not simply something that needs to be fixed. It is a problem that interrupts one’s peace and will drive you crazy if it does not get taken care of! I've been working in my trade for over 10 years beginning while I was in seminary gathering experience in furniture making and cabinet making while earning a Masters of Divinity from Southern Seminary. From then on I kept building things in my house, from a four-post bed, to cabinets, to end tables and even the spoons in our kitchen. I flipped our first house after moving to Oxford doing the work myself and eventually oversaw the construction of my own home doing a little bit of everything along the way from running electrical to installing the floors, doors, painting, carpentry, dirt work, and building all the cabinets and bathroom vanities in our home. Ithaka is one rooted in love for our neighbor and thoughtful care for those we serve in a mutually enriching relationship built on trust. #handyman #remodeling #repair #flooring #carpentry #plumbing #electrical #drywall #tile-work #decks #patios #custom-furniture #cabinets #kitchens #bathrooms

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Porcelain countertops are slightly more affordable than quartz. Most quartz countertops cost $50 to $200 per square foot, whereas porcelain typically costs $50 to $70 per square foot. However, lower quality builder’s grade quartz is similar in price to porcelain. This type of quartz contains more resin and fillers, making it less vibrant.

Yes. You can tile over tile if the old tile is in good shape, but this will also create a thicker floor. As a result, you may have to remove and readjust baseboards and other room trimmings and potentially even raise door heights to work with the higher floors. In most projects, it’s best to remove the old tile before installing a new tile floor.

If your budget can stretch to it, opting for porcelain tile over ceramic tile makes sense if you need something hard-wearing for a busy, moisture-retaining space. However, the cost of installing ceramic tiles is less expensive. They’re a little softer and easier to work with, making them a good choice for small, decorative DIY projects.

For professional labor and materials, it would cost between $6,000 and $28,000 to install 1,000 square feet of Saltillo tile flooring. If that’s out of your budget, you could consider laying the tiles yourself or choosing a less expensive type of flooring. For example, vinyl flooring costs just $2 to $7 per square foot, so for a 1,000-square-foot space, you’d pay $2,000 to $7,000.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.
