"Don't let the tattoos and the beards fool you, these guys know what they are doing. They are two of the nicest, well mannered guys I have ever had work on my house. They did everything we asked and everything they said they would do in a timely manner. We are actually going to use them to re-tile our hall bath and our foyer."

"It was great. We just haven't done anything at all with it. The responsiveness of the guy was very good. I think it was just not quite what we were looking for. It wasn't that their price was really high. I think it was just the price that we decided. Instead of just redoing the whole thing. we decided to do a fraction of it. The quote was about $5000. Their professionalism is great. We just need the plumbing redone and then that little section re-tiled. I don't think they would do just a little bit. With ReBath, they do the whole system."

Small jobs welcome

"I couldn?t be happier with the tile backsplash installation in my kitchen! From start to finish, Smith Floor and More was professional, detail-oriented, and incredibly skilled. The end result is stunning?clean lines, flawless grout work, and a layout that really elevates the whole space. He arrived on time each day, kept the work area clean, and even finished the project ahead of schedule. Communication was easy, and he took the time to explain each step of the process, which I really appreciated. His craftsmanship is top-notch, and it?s clear he takes great pride in his work. If you're looking for someone who truly knows what they're doing and will treat your home with care, I highly recommend Smith Floor and More. I?ll definitely be calling him again for future projects!"

"Excellent craftsmanship and Isiah worked in a timely and efficient manner. Also good communication about scope of project. Isiah purchased all materials except tiles which I purchased in advance. I wish I could post photos and videos. Isiah takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows. I love my new floor!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface.

No, you don’t need to remove the old grout before installing new tile over existing tile. In fact, the old grout helps fill in gaps between tiles, creating a more even surface for the new layer. However, it's important to ensure that the grout is clean, solid, and free of cracks or crumbling areas. Damaged grout should be repaired or replaced before proceeding. Cleaning the surface thoroughly and filling any low spots will help the new adhesive bond properly and ensure a smooth, stable installation.

The cost depends on the type of natural stone. High-end stones can cost as much as porcelain, but it depends on the specific material. For example, the cost of flagstone pavers is typically $2 to $6 per square foot, which is much more budget-friendly than porcelain. Outdoor slate tile can cost as much as $35 per square foot, which is about the same as porcelain.

If you’re looking for a durable tile for a shower floor, consider porcelain, stone, or vinyl tiles. Each of these options, when installed correctly, will stand up well to everything from water and moisture to the impact from a dropped bottle of body wash. These materials are also easy to clean and maintain, making them popular options for shower floors.

Ceramic tile can be slightly less expensive than porcelain pavers. You can find outdoor ceramic tile for as little as $1 per square foot, but high-end options tend to cost the same as porcelain.
