Customers say: Terrific value

"I had a new concrete floor poured in my basement (was dirt) and had a trap door and stairs built to the inside of my house. I was absolutely AMAZED at the quality of work! I am so pleased with the work I received that I plan to have a concrete driveway, carport, walk-way and back yard patio poured. And I don't want anyone else doing this work but Firebird! Dustin & Kelly you're the best!"

"Lance did foundation repair consisting of adding a deadman anchor system along one of our poured concrete foundation walls. Lance was right on time to provide the initial quote, provided the quote that day and was competitively priced. He was able to schedule us within 1 week and completed all of the work ahead of time, which was amazing. We were very happy with the quality of work. Also, Lance cleaned and swept up everything in the basement after he was done. Lance checked with us several times to make sure we were happy with the quality of work. Lance is easy to work with, arrived on time and works very hard. We would definitely work with Lance again."

"I was looking for someone to do our patio, walkway, steps and a pad for a garage. I looked into several places and many would either not return my call or wouldn't get a bid in the time that I needed it. Willie came out and looked at what I was wanting done and gave me a bid by the next day. He was there anytime I had a question and completed the job in a timely manner. I love my new patio and walk way and will absolutely be back in the future when I need more work done on some other projects I have planned."

Concrete Cutting questions, answered by experts

Choosing the right metal fabricator for your project begins with research. Find a reputable fabrication company by searching for reputable contractors in your area, and then reviewing photos of their previous work, customer reviews, and photos of the company’s workshop.

Once you’ve narrowed down the list, contact the companies to ask about the types of metal fabrication projects they specialize and inquire about guarantees and warranties on workmanship. You should also ensure the company uses high-quality material, and ask about the schedule and turnaround time for your proposed project.

It will likely take an experienced pro less than an hour to install a ground rod, which is another reason why letting them handle the job is such a good idea. Safety concerns aside, it would likely take you much longer to install a ground rod if you decided to take this one as a DIY job.

Welding is the process of using extreme heat—and, sometimes, pressure—to attach two pieces of metal. In contrast, metal fabrication is a more involved process that can include welding, sheet metal work, bending, and other forms of metal manipulation. Metal fabrication is a large-scale project that may or may not involve welding, while welding is more often a step in larger fabrication projects.

Professional metal fabricators typically charge around $70 per hour, but the total cost of your project will depend on several factors. The largest cost drivers are the size, complexity, and design of the project, as well as the price and type of metal used. A good way to estimate the total cost is to multiply the cost of raw materials by four; typically, one-quarter of the total goes toward materials and three-quarters toward labor. Your geographic location can also influence costs, as labor and material prices vary by region.

The average cost for a welding project is about $300, with typical costs ranging from $125 to $490. However, prices can be as low as $125 for very small jobs or exceed $1,200 for large or complex projects. Welders typically charge an hourly rate between $65 and $150, depending on their experience, and many charge a minimum fee to cover overhead and travel expenses. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including labor, the cost of materials like metal rods and shielding gas, the type of metal being welded, the project's size and complexity, and your geographic location. For a precise quote, it's best to ask a local welder for an estimate based on your specific project.
