"John was very knowledgeable about my central vacuum. He came in and immediately figured out what was wrong with my vacuum and fixed it. He is a very friendly man. He even checked out my unit in the basement to make sure it was working properly. He cleaned the unit and the filter. I would refer him to my family and friends."

"Anton’s Air Conditioning and Heating installed a tankless water heater. We are so happy to never run out of hot water. The installers were very professional. I highly recommend Anton’s!"

"I called Bernie this morning after my home warranty company had not assigned a tech to repair my central AC. He was not only professional but more importantly an overall great human being with the understanding we have been having excessive heat Bernie still made time to come out. Not only did he get to my house quickly he was able to replace the part needed to get me up and running. He then went above and beyond to ensure it was working correctly, changed my filter, and made sure the air was blowing at the correct temperature. He was extremely reasonable and more importantly without hassle filled out the paperwork needed so I would be reimbursed by my warranty company. If I could give him 10 stars I would and I would highly recommend using him for repairs."

"The whole experience was excellent. The contractor assigned to do the work was knowledgeable about the materials and installation. New siding was installed without a problem, and the contractor corrected many faults in the original work. Even where siding was patched into existing work, the results were beyond expectations. The porch post repair went easily and smoothly with no damage to my existing trim. If not for the new treated post, you would not know any work had been done. Can't argue with skill and good workmanship. Best of all, total cost of work came in below estimate. Would definitely use this company again, and recommend them to anyone."

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

Technically, yes, you could install a central vacuum system on your own, but it is a very difficult DIY. There is a significant amount of planning, cutting into walls, and electrical wiring work that goes into it, which should only be performed by a professional. Because of the difficulty and expense associated with a central vacuum system, it’s worth it to hire a professional company familiar with the installation's complexities.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.
