"I had a good experience with Fred. Cleaned and painted our deck and water sealed the bottom side. We have an outside table with a wood table top. He suggested to use the paint used for the deck to treat the table. Did it for free! Good experience. Will ask him again to help out with some interior work."

"Rodney was very courteous, professional, and extremely thorough in explaining to my wife and I the texture of the stain and different colors of stain for the deck as to how that would blend or contrast with the colors of the house. I highly recommend B.I.C. Pressure Cleaning Specialist."

"Local Family provided a quality experience for my pressure washing needs. The initial response was very quick and an onsite estimate was provided within days. The job was scheduled and completed within a week after and at the pricing initially agreed to. All around, a great experience. I would definitely hire again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend."

"Brian was the perfect guy for the job. He showed up at the time expected each day, worked hard, was trustworthy, and he was kind. But most of all, his attention to detail and ability to do all of the things requested and more was phenomenal. He really can do it all. He was patient when I changed my mind or requested new projects. And I was always impressed with the final product. I was hesitant to leave a review, as I want to keep him all for myself. But in good conscience, I need to let the world know that Brian is the man for the job. It is such a relief to know that Brian is just a phone call away the next time I need a home improvement, a handy man, or even someone to fix my AC. Thank you from one happy customer."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Building codes for deck railings can vary by location, so it's important to consult your local regulations before construction. Generally, a guardrail is required for any deck that is more than 30 inches above the ground.

For residential properties, the standard minimum height for a deck railing is 36 inches. However, some states and municipalities have stricter requirements; for example, California and Washington mandate railings that are at least 42 inches high. Therefore, a 42-inch railing is not considered too high and may be required in your area or chosen voluntarily for additional safety.

In addition to height requirements, codes also specify other safety features, such as the maximum spacing between balusters to ensure they are close enough to prevent a child from squeezing through.

The “best” material is in the eye of the beholder, as each common decking material boasts its pros and cons. Poured concrete is the best budget-friendly option, but composite wood brings high-grade aesthetics without breaking the bank. Wood is the most traditional material, but it requires more maintenance than some other materials. In other words, do your research before settling on a deck material to find the one that’s best for your pool.

Yes, an elevated deck can increase a home's resale value. Homeowners can expect a 65% return on investment from the cost of a second-story deck installation. For example, if you spend $5,000 to install a second-story deck, that deck will add $3,250 to the value of your home.

In most cases, there should be a small gap between the house and the deck, usually no more than ½ to ¾ of an inch. This space allows water and moisture to flow through instead of pooling against the side of your house. It also lets flashing protect your siding from runoff, which is one of the most common issues with decks.

Yes, it is possible to add an under-deck drainage system to an existing deck by retrofitting it to the structure. This process may require some prep work. For example, many drainage systems are installed on top of the deck joists, which would require you to remove the decking boards and railings first. To avoid this, you could opt for a below-the-joist drainage system. For best results and to ensure proper installation, it is recommended to consult a professional. A pro can inspect your deck, make any necessary repairs, and then install the drainage system correctly.
