The worst communication and service I have seen.
"Christman & Sons Concrete was sub conracted by a pool company to pour this pool deck. The extra holes customer wanted done for basketball & volleyball nets come in different sizes and different costs. She was fully aware of the day we were to pour the concrete and she said she would be home to show us the placement of the holes. She was not home as stated. We told her that we could use pvc pipe for the holes at no charge. She was not there. These holes could of been placed that day and would not of cost Christman & Sons any extra money. As it turned out, we would have to core drill the holes therefore, rent a core drill machine. We told the customer that we would come back as we had a few more pools to core drill, when we rented the machine. We usually charge $450.00 to core drill a pool. We came back on that day, Oct. 31st, and finished the job. We did not charge the customer for this. Her cost was $0.00. As far as the cracks, the pool company contacted us, and Mike did go look at the pool and saw 2 hairline cracks. We do everything possible to prevent concrete from cracking. Fiber mesh, 6 sack concrete mix, saw cuts. Mike reported back to the pool company on the hairline cracks. In the pool companies contract with the customer, it clearly states that there is no warranty against cracks. The customer was fully aware of this, as she signed the pool companies contract. The pool company reiterated this information to the customer again. If homeower would been home, like she had stated, on the day of the pour, no core drilling would of been necessary. All work has been completed. We are sorry that this customer was not happy."
After I agreed to the itemized written estimate, was told that one item/job would cost $600 more.
The job was booked late April, to be done the second week of May. It is still not finished. They still have not been out to trim up caulk/ even out and "tidy up" job as promised, as of 07/07/2014
Work looks very sloppy-- either not enough caulk was used and it did not spread in areas, leaving cracks with sand coming out, or too much was used and it spread
into a sloppy looking blob. The concrete patio area is now two-toned because of uneven sealing. There are footsteps stained into the pool deck of where someone walked with extra sealer- or something- on the bottom of his shoes.
JR said the caulk would be trimmed where it spread-- that did not happened. Mike told me numerous times he would be out to finish up. I took off work to wait for him so that I could be there. Each time he never showed up or bothered to call. Now my telephone calls and e-mails go unanswered
Once they started, the project went very well. No surprises. The crew that poured the concrete was very efficient. They finished the grading, prepped the patio area with rebar in time for when the concrete arrived. They had the whole patio poured in just over an hour. They came back and did the stamping which turned out better than we ever imagined. The following day they came back to power wash the release agent. The 3rd day they came back and sealed the concrete.
They showed up when they said they would and the job was delivered exactly as promised. The price was reasonable compared to other bids, but of course we would have preferred it to be less because the first contractor abandoned the project (see report on Hassler). All in all, we were very impressed with Mike Christman and his team's work and we are very happy with the end result. We would highly recommend them to our friends.
