"I'm so happy with the service! My 22x29 ft basement had water damage, there were storage boxes stuck to the basement floor. George and his assistant were able to remove all damaged items, including large furniture and mattresses, in 2 hrs. They had their own vehicle so I didn't have to worry about disposal. 12 years of junk has been removed and I can now see my basement floor. I appreciate the professionalism and the reasonable rate!"
"I was very grateful and thankful Mayo Plumbing was able to squeeze me in before I had to head out of town for the holiday, only to return to entertain another large group of people, with overnight guests. The hair clog was a big one and very deep into the pipes. The job unclogged the drain."
"I was out of town needing a dishwasher installed in a rental property. CW promptly returned my call and was easy to work with. Very professional. His fee was very reasonable. I will be using him again in the future. "
"Ok. but there was poor communication from the office. The plumber did not arrive as quickly as expected. Also, the plumber was not wearing a mask and did not offer to wear a mask even though we had ours on."
"Steered me in the right direction because the real work needed was covered by a recall, however he did make adjustments to my washer that was needed."
"I left a message on Bob's phone for an estimate. He responded within hours. We discussed in detail over the phone the repairs I was needing. He gave me a verbal estimate on the phone and scheduled an appointment to see the work and schedule the job date. He was able to visit my home the next week and after seeing the job, he confirmed the amount discussed over the phone. He got to work the next day, and even fit in the installation of a garbage disposal that broke the night before he arrived. He did a fabulous job! I had an invoice in the mail the following Monday, which was right on target and budget as agreed. I will definately use Bob Goodman of Lighthouse Handyman in the future. "

"It went very well. The company called back with 24 hours to schedule an appointment and was able to come at a time that fit my schedule at the last minute. The service tech was nice, on time and helpful. He changed out the drain during the tub reglazing even though he was not required to do so. Only recommendation would be to use their own trash bags vs. my bathroom trash bin as it left dust and film in it. Other than that the experience was great."
Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts
Your garbage disposal is not draining because it might have a clog due to food waste, a foreign object, grease, oil, fat, or it may have a broken motor. When water doesn't flush out of the disposal, that's a key sign that your disposal has a clog or needs repair.
On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.
There are many maintenance and repair issues that lead to a malfunctioning garbage disposal. Regular clogs place wear and tear on the motors, leading to an eventual shutdown. Electrical issues at the breaker, wall outlet, or disposal itself can fry the unit. The most common cause is simply a worn-down motor. These motors can only handle so much use before powering down for good.
In some cases, it’s more cost-effective in the long run to replace a garbage disposal, but it depends on the specific issue you’re having and the age of your disposal. You should ask a garbage disposal repair tech for a quote to repair your appliance and then see if it would be more worthwhile to replace it. Additionally, garbage disposals last for around 15 years, so if you know your appliance is reaching that age, it’s likely better to pay for a new garbage disposal rather than sink money into repairs.
Whether it's worth repairing your garbage disposal depends on its age and the specific problem. Generally, if the unit is eight years old or younger, repair is a good option. For minor issues like a bad seal or a simple jam, a repair can be inexpensive, sometimes under $10. However, if the motor is broken (a repair that can cost $150 or more) or the unit is getting old, it's often more cost-effective to replace the entire disposal.
