Add up the linear feet, remembering to include both upper cabinets and lower cabinets in your total. Then, calculate the cost by multiplying the average price per linear foot of the type of cabinet you plan to install by the total length you measured.

To successfully build a shelf unit with plywood, you’ll need sheets that are at least 0.25 inches thick. Any thinner and your shelves will be flimsy and less likely to last. Expect to pay around $300 for a professional to build a basic shelving unit, or up to $1,300 for custom built-in shelves.
