"I am happy to recommend this company. They responded to my HomeAdvisor call immediately with an in-person estimate, then removed and shredded some overgrown shrubs at a reasonable price. While they were there, I hired them again to take down a very tall walnut tree, which they were able to do using a climber and a bucket truck. Bobby W., the owner, is very experienced on all the equipment, and will also be doing some grading and dirt work for us with his Bobcat. His crew did a great job of cleaning up, and were professional and polite. I appreciate being able to hire a local, family-owned business ."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

If you’re wondering who will pick up stump grindings or the remnants of your stump once it’s fully decayed, consider hiring a professional landscaping service. You can also hire a professional stump grinding service if you have a stubborn stump that you can’t remove on your own. If you choose that route, be sure to include the removal of leftover debris in your contract.

Local tree removal prices range from $200 to $2,000 overall, but vary depending on:

  • Local cost of labor and supplies

  • Accessibility of the tree

  • Local laws regarding who is allowed to remove the tree

  • The species of the tree (softer woods are often easier to remove)

  • Local seasonal discounts for the off-season

Trees growing within 10 to 15 feet of your house pose serious risks, so it’s worth considering removing them. First, branches that hang over and touch your roof can promote roof damage and moss accumulation, which can lead to leaking. Second, they drop debris into your gutters, leading to clogs and overflow that can promote foundation leaks. Finally, the root systems can grow into your home’s foundation, sometimes putting enough pressure on them that the concrete wall cracks, leaving you with structural damage. As such, it’s often a good idea to remove trees growing close to your home.

Hiring an arborist is usually more expensive than hiring a standard tree company, but it’s typically well worth the investment. If you suspect a tree is infested or diseased, hiring an arborist can help avoid the same fate for nearby trees, and prevent removal. Arborists might also be necessary if you’re dealing with tree removal or trimming near power lines, as uncertified removal companies often aren’t permitted to service these trees. Finally, if your aim is to preserve the health of your trees, an arborist is absolutely worth the money.

You can use a chainsaw, but it won’t remove the entire stump or root ball and is not a recommended method. It takes quite a bit of physical work to achieve and will likely dull or ruin your chainsaw. Instead, consider using salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, stump grinding, or burning to kill a tree stump. These methods allow you to kill a stump using minimal machinery and physical exertion.
