"Mark and his crew did an awesome job in replacing a few decking boards, rails and spindles on out 20 year old deck. They also power washed and stained/sealed the entire deck. Mark is a very good man who takes pride in his work and is a great communicator. MHK will be first on my list to call for my next project."

"As a property owner with several rental units, I've had the pleasure of working with Trent and his team at TW Contracting on multiple projects. From renovations to necessary repairs, Trent has consistently delivered high-quality work that has exceeded my expectations. His attention to detail is remarkable. For instance, on my recent kitchen renovation, he transformed the space seamlessly, creating a modern look while maintaining functionality. The craftsmanship truly showcases his skills and dedication. Trent is a true professional. He communicated every step of the way, ensuring that I was updated on the progress and any potential challenges. What stood out the most was his commitment to finishing projects on time without compromising quality. Moreover, his pricing is fair and transparent, providing great value for the quality of work delivered. I’ve attached pictures of ythe transformations, which speak volumes about his expertise. I highly recommend Trent and TW Contracting to"

"I requested three bids. The first company was high pressure sales and way over priced arrived lated to the appointment. The second comapny never showed up. Addco was my last company and he was on time to give me a quote. I was in a postion that I needed a small deck put up in the back yard quickly. Addco was well priced listened to my needs. Told me it was doable and in a very short trunaround. The team was awesome to work with. My next deck procject at my new house will be in the front to extend the porch to have a nice seating area and I'm deffiently going back to ADDCO to have it done, I couldn't been more pleased on how my deck trned out."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

To flatten a cupped deck board, start by ensuring it’s dry. Then, try flipping the board over so the cupped side faces down and reattach it. If that’s not possible, you can use screws to pull it tighter to the joists or plane the edges slightly to reduce the cup. It’s best to replace severely cupped boards.

It is possible to pressure wash your deck, but it’s usually best to leave the work to a professional for two main reasons. First, power washers are expensive, and you can avoid high upfront costs by hiring a deck washing pro instead. Second, you must be careful to use the correct setting to avoid damaging your deck material. You can only clean soft woods like pine with a wide spray and a low pressure; otherwise, the water will leave unpleasant marks on your deck. Hard woods, composite material, and metal can stand up to increasingly higher water pressures.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

While the terms deck and porch are often used interchangeably, they are two distinct structures. A porch is a covered structure, usually attached to the front of a home, that offers protection from the elements. In contrast, a deck is an open, uncovered platform, often attached to the back or side of a home. Because porches have a roof, they typically require less maintenance than decks, but both features need regular cleaning and repairs to stay in good condition.

The cost to build a second-story deck averages $4,800, though the actual price could range as low as $420 to upwards of $16,000. While labor costs range between 35% and 50% of the total project cost, the materials and complexity of design will ultimately lead you to save or spend more money on this home addition.
