""From the call to set up the appointment to when we had our evaluation, Smart Environmental Services was the most professional, knowledgeable, and kind service I've ever booked. Quick service and setup, keen attention to detail, and very courteous inside the home. (It felt as if they were a neighbor we had known for a long time.) Not only did they save us money regarding our asbestos, they gave us a wealth of helpful knowledge during our evaluation. I will call them for any further services on our home and recommend them 100 times over! Thanks again for helping our home be a safe place Mr. Pony and Smart Environmental Services!"

"UPDATE: Since the situation below happened, Veteran Construction took charge of the situation and explained that the situation does not reflect their business practice or company policy on engaging potential clients. Therefore, I have updated my rating to a C since it perhaps was a misunderstanding with the individual. However, I will still leave the review below since it did happen and I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. I truly hope that this was an isolated incident.

After the company?s response, I have updated my statement to show that this was a disagreement with one of their
employees rather than the company:
After every hail storm that we get in Central Indiana, we get a flood of Storm Chasers come through our subdivision giving us "free estimates" on any damages on our roof and vinyl siding. However, I had never had one of them call me a liar and a thief for not accepting their free inspection/estimate. One of the representatives from "Veteran Construction" stopped by, he mentioned that they were going to be working on our street and he would love to have someone drop by to give us a free inspection/estimate on any damages from the storm. I politely explained that we were all set and thanked him for stopping by. He then asked how come we didn?t need an estimate. I explained that our roof was brand new and I had done an inspections of the vinyl siding and I didn't think we needed any help at this time. He then said that he was going to leave me with "a million dollar question" and he pulled out a piece of paper from a huge stack of duplicates from his folder. The paper was a double-sided "million dollar" bill with Ronald Reagan on the front. When I flipped it, it basically asked me if I thought I was good enough to go to heaven and went on
to explain that lies (even white lies, fibs, or exaggeration) were considered lying. It went on to ask if I was a thief and followed up with an explanation of what it means to steal. Then it told me that I needed to repent or I could end up in prison for being a liar and a thief. Even worse for me, I would not go to heaven but rather h***. I can't believe that someone would think that this is the right way to do business. I had my roof changed 3 years ago and on my inspection of the siding I found a small hole on the vinyl that I can fix myself. Other representatives from different companies just left their business card and asked me to call them if I needed help, which I would gladly do. This individual insulted me, my religious beliefs, and my principles just because I declined an inspection. I hope this was an isolated incident and it won?t happen again. It is best to separate business with personal thoughts on certain individuals. As Veteran Construction explained, I hope that the appropriateness of the situation was discussed with the employee so they know the difference."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

When asbestos damages the lungs it causes a condition called “asbestosis” which, unfortunately, can’t be cured once it’s damaged the lungs. This condition is chronic and any treatment is undertaken to improve quality of life. This usually involves quitting smoking, being prescribed oxygen, and undergoing lung rehab. Severe cases usually require a lung transplant.

if you install new siding on top of old asbestos siding, you may keep the fibers trapped, but it would not necessarily be considered encapsulation. To do so properly requires a professional, who uses a certain type of sealant that needs to be spread over the asbestos in a number of layers in order to trap all the fibers. Although you may be able to buy this sealant yourself, it is highly advised that, once you find asbestos, you call a pro immediately.

You are not really supposed to seal asbestos with paint, but in theory it could work—the caveat being that this is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The only real way to seal asbestos is with the professional application of an encapsulating material like epoxy. Due to the negative effect asbestos can have on your home, however, it is usually the best course of action to accept a costly fix and remove the material entirely.

Yes, professionals are trained to conduct safe renovations post-asbestos removal, ensuring comprehensive safety and compliance with regulatory standards. They provide reconstruction and restoration services to restore the integrity and appearance of affected areas.

Yes. Gutting a house to the studs may actually be a good option if you believe a home contains toxic materials like asbestos, mold, or lead paint. However, this must be done under the supervision of licensed remediation experts.
