"This was a very tricky job with three trees overhanging electric wires on two sides. I was amazed at the way they got these trees down with no damage to lines or property. Very professional, perfect cleanup, at a great price. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing this kind of job. We are already discussing the next project which is garden design. SNB will be my go to for any yard projects or maintenance."

Customers say: Quick response

"Mr. Rantz is a friendly, down-to-earth guy who definitely knows how to get rid of a tree stump. Severe storms rolled through NW Springfield in late April 2025. Unfortunately, we had to have a maple tree cut down. The tree company’s guy wanted $1150 to grind the stump and haul the sawdust. Mr. Rantz did it for $600 and did as thorough a job as I could’ve asked for. Five out of five stars. If you need to get rid of a stump on your property, hire Sam Rantz’s Stump Grinding - you’ll be glad you did."

"In my opinion Trufast Tree Service should be the choice of anyone needing any type of tree service. When Luke came out to give me a bid on the job, he was very polite, courteous and professional. He made sure all my question were answered and that I knew exactly what would be done on the job. The crew arrived exactly when promised. Justin and his crew were also polite, courteous and very professional. They made me feel like a valued customer and that is very important to me. They were efficient and very thorough. Actually they were done a lot faster than I expected. They made sure everything was picked up and there were no pieces of tree branches left anywhere. I am very pleased with the price and the job that was done. Therefore, I would recommend Trufast to anyone that needs any type of tree service done. Thank you Trufast for being there for me!"

"Derrick and his crew came to remove a very large tree that had fallen a few years ago. I think it took a bit longer than anticipated and it included a second tree that was hidden under the first tree. He could have upped his price because of the time and second tree but he didn't, and that was very helpful. I do plan to hire his crew again in the future."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The best time to prune Japanese flowering cherry trees depends on where you live and the type of flowering cherry tree. Some trees benefit from being pruned toward the end of winter or early spring, after the last freeze. Meanwhile, other trees do well after blooming, in late spring or early summer. Avoid pruning your flowering cherry tree in the early winter, as this encourages open wounds that can lead to infections or infestations.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

Generally, no, tree topping isn’t a good technique, and you should avoid using it in most cases. Tree topping may be the only good option to save a tree following severe damage after a storm, but in most other cases, it’s not the right choice. Tree topping can leave trees vulnerable to disease and further damage, and most pros will suggest against it.

Your neighbor is not in a good position to know if your trees are truly dead or pose any kind of danger. That’s why hiring an arborist or tree service expert can be such an important part of the process. If the trees are still alive and don’t pose any threat, you’re in the clear (but you may want to document and photograph everything in case events turn sour down the road).

But if a tree is visibly dead and near the property line, you should remove it to be safe. If a dead tree falls on a neighbor’s property, they may have grounds to sue for negligence. If any branches on trees have died, it’s a good idea to cut them back for similar reasons.

Tree roots are hearty and complex systems, so they don’t die immediately after the rest of the tree is removed. If you leave the root system in place, it takes anywhere from two to seven years for it to run out of nutrients. It is worth noting, however, that the roots stop growing and expanding after cutting down the rest of the tree.
