"Matt was professional, arrived on time, and gave a fair price for all work performed. He performed the entire job (dry wall installation, trim repair, and painting) himself. He communicated well throughout the process and was happy to explain any work he did. He says he won't do anything that he wouldn't do in his own home, and cares about the customer's happiness over getting the job done quick."

"It was excellent. They were on time. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. Stayed within budget. Also referred them to 3 other friends. He did our roof when we built our house 3 years ago and they did an excellent job it cost around $12,000 since then he's done at least 3 to 4 of our friends roofs."

"It went great! No drips or mess. The door looks beautiful! I wouldn't expect anything less from Justin. He's very meticulous. I have him in my phone whenever I need anything done. When he was here before, he painted the exterior of my front entry door. Beautiful! He and his team repaired a section of deck railing. Great job!"

"Worked very well with Nick . He got the job done as contracted in an efficient manner, and it looks great. He also went out of his way to make sure the project went well and at a fair price. I’d definitely use Young Renovator’s for fire projects. Great job!!"

Dock Building and Repair questions, answered by experts

Cedar wood is the best choice for a hardwood dock, as it is rot-resistant and does well in the water. Pressure-treated pine and spruce are two other solid options. Alternately, composite or waterproof plastic are materials commonly used for docks, and are frequently used in prefabricated kits.

The length your dock can be will differ greatly depending on your location. Some localities will have rules; for example, some areas won't allow you to build a dock that is more than one-fourth of the width of a body of water. Other areas won't have any rules on length at all.

It is possible to build your own dock, especially for simpler projects like a small floating dock, provided you are an experienced DIYer. However, dock building is a complicated process, and hiring a professional is recommended for larger, more complex projects that involve installing pilings or engineering a suspension structure.

A professional dock builder will have the necessary tools and skills to set post foundations, ensure proper anchoring, and build a safe, durable structure that can withstand marine conditions for decades. They are also knowledgeable about local regulations and permitting requirements. In some areas, it is illegal for anyone without a marine construction license to build a dock. Hiring a professional helps avoid these potential legal headaches and ensures the project is completed safely and correctly.

Most dock builds take 1-4 weeks, depending on design, permitting, and weather conditions.

When deciding how big of a dock you can build, you should check with your city and state for any restrictions. Some cities won’t allow docks larger than one-fourth of the width of a body of water, while others have no restrictions at all. Gather this information when you apply for your permits so you can plan the build accordingly.
