"These young men were so professional and personable. They were honest and actually told us on several areas that we were just using the wrong type of light bulb, instead of charging us. I would highly recommend J & C, but please wait because I have more work for them to do and I want first dibs. 😀"

"I contacted Endeavor Electric to make repairs identified during a recent home inspection. In a time crunch for closing, it's normally difficult to find a contractor for a punchlist of small repairs. Marty Popejoy considered my repairs, offered a verbal quote, coordinated the necessary appointment with Evergy, and committed a licensed electrician to my project. The electrician, Keith, contacted me immediately with the plan. Keith arrived on-time, took appropriate COVID protective measures, explained repairs, and completed everything to the highest quality. This has been an incredibly favorable experience...I highly recommend Endeavor Electric!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

A portable generator can supply power to selected appliances and circuits in a home, but it's generally not designed to handle the entire household's electrical needs simultaneously. Portable generators have limited wattage capacity, so they are only designed to power essential devices and electronics temporarily until local power is restored. If your power needs outweigh the capabilities of a portable generator, consider installing a whole-home generator instead.

Portable generators provide backup power for essential appliances during outages and are easy to relocate.

The amount of time a standby generator can run continuously is around 3,000 hours on average. However, standby generators can generally run indefinitely as long as they have a continuous fuel supply. Generators hooked up to a home’s natural gas supply are the best option for extended usage, as these won’t rely on a finite fuel supply based on how much you have in storage. Generators running on liquid propane or diesel won’t last as long, as these require fuel storage and regular refueling to stay running.

If you’re wondering whether gas generators produce carbon monoxide, know that natural gas generators do not produce carbon monoxide if they are functioning properly, as natural gas burns cleanly. However, if the generator malfunctions and the gas does not burn completely, there is potential for carbon dioxide to be produced. To prevent malfunctions, it's crucial to perform regular maintenance, including running the generator weekly and scheduling professional inspections every 6 to 12 months. Also, be sure to test your carbon monoxide detectors regularly to ensure they function in the rare case of the generator producing carbon monoxide.

A 1,500 square foot home will likely need a 15kW to 20kW generator. When deciding on whole-house generator size, add up the total wattage of the devices that you’d like to continue running during a power outage. That way, you can ensure you purchase a generator that can power your necessary appliances or medical equipment during an electrical emergency.
