"We were extremely pleased with the work done by Kyle Krasky of Kdrains. Whenever we hire someone for a needed service, we expect a timely response to our inquiry, someone coming to our home to view the work needed, and a fixed bid for performing the work. We called Kyle’s phone, and he replied very promptly. He came to our house within the hour to look at the nine drains in our landscape (yes, 9 drains.) I explained that I knew one drain was blocked with sediment, and leaves. He gave me a bid for two hours work, with his guarantee that he would do the job, and would complete said job even if it took more than two hours for that same bid price. We scheduled the work to be done the next day. The next day, he called, and arrived within minutes of when he said he would (very timely, thank you!). He is very knowledgeable about drains. He had to use one special piece of equipment for two of the drains, but did not charge us for that. (Thank you, again!!) The 40 foot drain that I knew was blocked took him almost 2 hours to clean out by itself. He worked long and hard to clean out the gravel, stones, leaves, and sand that blocked that problem drain. He spent much more time and energy than he had originally bid. He honored his bid, and there were no additional charges. He is a really fine young man. He is polite and very, knowledgeable about the work he performs. He is helpful in explaining what he is doing. He is honest. I much appreciate his great response time and his on time arrival. I would recommend hiring him, with no reservations involving his work and customer satisfaction. This is who you want to work with when you have drainage problems. Thank you, Kyle of “Kdrains”!"

"

The clean-up was fine, it's the pricing that was concerning.

I was very disappointed in the billing and cost of the services Dry Air Restoration (Shakopee, MN) provided.  The first estimate came back at $1925.00, but once they found out insurance was going to cover the clean up costs, their bill jumped up to $3,686.52 for the exact same services as indicated in their initial estimate.  We were told by this organization, that if insurance was covering the claim, they bill differently than if the bill will be paid for without insurance.

I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable recommending a company that takes advantage of its customers like this.  Regardless if insurance covers the clean-up and repair, the work performed is the same.

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A sewer cleanout typically looks like a white or gray PVC pipe with a removable cap. It's often located either in your yard or basement, depending on your home's plumbing configuration. The cleanout pipe is designed to provide easy access to your sewer system for maintenance and inspections. It may be flush with the ground or slightly elevated, making it distinguishable from other pipes. When you remove the cap, you can access the sewer line directly or determine its direction, which can be helpful when you need to locate your sewer line from your house to the street.

It’ll take 20 to 30 minutes to unclog a sewer line using a drain snake or drain cleaner. If you hire a professional, you should expect them to be on-site for three hours or less. In addition to clearing the clog, they’ll do other routine inspections, which adds to the overall time (and cost) required.

Main sewer lines can clog for several reasons. For example, if you regularly dump oil or grease down your drain, it could eventually block your line. Sometimes, tree roots can penetrate and grow inside old sewer pipes, creating a major blockage. Flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, or baby wipes) can also clog your plumbing system.

It is generally safe to stay in a house that smells like sewage for a short time, but you should get the problem fixed as soon as possible. While the level of sewer gas is usually low enough to only cause minor symptoms, prolonged inhalation can lead to headaches, nausea, or respiratory irritation. High levels of gas exposure can be more dangerous, and high concentrations of methane—a component of sewer gas—can pose an explosion risk in enclosed spaces. If you smell sewer gas in your home, ventilate the area and call a professional to locate, assess, and fix the problem, as it will not go away on its own.

A two-way cleanout can help if there’s already a clog, but the best strategy to prevent one is by not rinsing grease, oil, or fat down your drains, not flushing or rinsing coffee grounds or egg shells down your drains, flushing only human waste and toilet paper (so no diapers, period products, bathroom wipes, or paper towels), and using drain guards on all of your drains.
