Just a few guys doing what we love doing! If you have an old garden bed you would like to update or just in need of some landscaping work, we are here to help. We've been in this field of work for many years now and have the experience to make sure we leave you happy with our work. Some of the services we offer are shrub removal, renewing old garden beds, making new ones, mulching, putting down rock, plastic edging, stone/brick edging, and much more. There is no job to big or to small for us, we just want to help out and make your property look better. We take a lot of pride in our work and hope to work with you in the future. Thanks!

We do pressure washing, snow removal, yard clean ups, asphalt sealing, and landscaping. Occasionally we may also do things like hauling items, or skid loader/truck work. We stand out from other companies because we value your opinions and reviews, we do our best on the job. We do not try to get done quick and get out of there.

"He helps us with a couple of projects. The service was excellent. He was a great guy, great company. He was prompt, courteous, good quality of work, and just a good person. He was polite, respectful, and always wanted to help more."

Established in 1995. Groundworks is a family owned and operated landscaping contractor, based in Hastings, Minnesota, with a reputation for beautiful, long-lasting landscapes and hardscapes.

"Let me start this by saying that I'm a detail oriented guy. I work in the mechanical trades, and I'm very familiar with the practices used by contractors. Both good and bad. With that in mind, I needed to hire someone to redo a very poor landscaping job that I inherited. I looked at a small handful of companies that I knew to have a good reputation. Groundworks is a family operated business. I met initially with Gary, who owns it along with his wife. He provided an initial estimate, and was clear about what would be done. He uses his own employees, no sub-contractors or temporary help. In fact, his son Chris was the crew leader on my project. With more than 20 years of experience, I was in good hands with Chris. The scope of the project was initially smaller than the end result due to the hidden issues that were uncovered when work got under way. Gary and Chris worked with me to correct those problems at a price that was more than fair given the time and effort involved. His crew was polite and wasted no time sitting around despite the brutally hot weather. The end result was beautiful. Do yourself a favor and give them an opportunity to provide an estimate. People like this are few and far between. I won't hesitate to recommend them to family and friends. Charles Rapp Lakeville"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Beyond landscaping, limestone has multiple uses. For example, there are multiple pros and cons to limestone countertops, such as a lower cost compared to other types of stone and heat resistance. Limestone is also a key ingredient in limewash, a type of paint with a chalky texture. Other uses for limestone include siding, retaining walls, and mixed into cement.

Replace organic mulch every one to two years, depending on the variety. Wood chips and straw, for example, will last a couple of years, while grass clippings and pine needles need replacing every several months. Inorganic mulch—such as rock and rubber chips—can stay in place for up to four years, depending on erosion and general garden upkeep.

Yes, you can lay pea gravel directly on the dirt. First, dig a trench 2 to 6 inches deep the length and width of the area you want to cover. Plants and weeds will eventually grow through the pea gravel if you don’t lay down landscaping cloth.

You need to put shock-absorbent material under artificial grass. While it will depend on where exactly you’re placing artificial grass, there are a few different options you could use such as silica sand, granite sand, astro-cushion, weed membrane, and geo-textile paper.

In most cases, it’s better to remove rocks before adding mulch. Layering the two will restrict drainage and plant health, and can create an unpleasant texture underfoot.
