"Overall we were very happy with our service. They were prompt, polite, explained the process thoroughly, and cleaned everything up. The only hiccup was that the tech broke our toilet when removing it - but he was extremely apologetic and Jeff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We don't have any more asbestos in the house, so I won't need to use them again. But I would definitely recommend Envirobate.

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should caulk a toilet to the floor for several reasons. Bathrooms are constantly wet—and if water splashes out of your shower and collects on your floor, you don’t want it seeping underneath your toilet, where it could potentially cause damage. Plus, caulk adds stability and helps prevent your toilet from wobbling.

Costs depend on door material, labor, additional hardware, and whether structural modifications are needed.

You can DIY your toilet flapper replacement if you’re up for a small plumbing project. Turn off the water to the toilet, open the tank lid, remove the chain from the lever, and unhook the flapper. For a new, adjustable flapper, adjust it to the right setting according to your toilet's gallons per flush rating. Hook the flapper in place and install the chain with 1/2 inch of slack.

The biggest sign that your flange leaks is if you notice water at the base of the toilet. The cause is likely due to a poor flange installation, so you might have issues with loose bolts, an uneven flange, or a cracked plastic flange. Add a deteriorating wax seal to this, and you have a recipe for disaster. The best solution is to shut off the water valve, replace the toilet flange, and seal it with a new wax ring.

Recaulk your toilet at least every five years. If you feel like your toilet is getting wobbly before that, it still might be time for a new caulking. Never directly place new caulk over existing caulk because that doesn’t produce lasting results. Also, caulking over existing moldy caulk does not kill out the mold by suffocating it, so if you have mold, be sure to get rid of it before recaulking.
