We were told that it would be 4-6 months before the order would be in and they could install. Which was fine. The six months went with no word or updates. We contacted them the beginning of November and were told that the order was expected November 9th and that they would contact us shortly after to schedule install. It is now December 16th with no further contact or updates from Larsons. I understand there are problems with materials to manufacture, etc; but taking money (over $1000) from a customer and not taking 5 minutes to update them is a horrible way to operate a business."

You install a window well 8 to 12 inches deeper than the base of the window sill. After filling the well with drainage rock, the well should sit 3 inches below the bottom of the window. The top of the window well should also be at least 3 inches higher than the surface-grade ground. The window well should be about 6 inches wider than the window opening.

The installation process for your egress window project will span three days for three stages. On day one, excavation will occur. Day two involves cutting the foundation, and day three will focus on window installation and insulation. Remember that the number of windows you install will impact the days needed. Additionally, you may want a couple of helpers to help you speed through day one.

There are a range of egress window types available, including:

  • Single-hung: $100–$400

  • Double-hung: $250–$500

  • Horizontal/sliding: $150–$800

  • Casement: $200–$500

  • In-swing: $350–$700

When choosing a type of egress window, consider how you’d like to open it. For example, double-hung egress windows open from top to bottom and let plenty of fresh air in, whereas sliding windows slide open for easy access.
