"All Pro Landscaping was prompt in service. Showed up when they were scheduled to , unlike many other contractors who don't show when they are scheduled nor give you the courtesy of a phone call as to their not showing. All Pro Landscaping did exactly what they quoted in a timely and very professional friendly manner. "My synthetic grass was installed in my 5000 square foot front yard 3 years ago. It's been through 3 winters and it looks as good today as it did when it was installed. We tried for 10 years at great expense to grow grass but because we have so much shade and because our yard is so steep we were never successful. I knew that synthetic turf was the only answer and I called 3 companies for estimates and samples. When compared to the other samples, ForeverLawn's grass was by far the highest quality. I hired Troy and his crew and I wish I would have known about them 10 years ago. I can honestly say that I couldn't be happier. I would recommend ForeverLawn to anyone."

"James was amazing! He was in contact with us in scheduling a time to look at our project, we received an estimate by email the next day and let us know a time frame on when he could get the patio poured. He was extremely professional and the sub-contractor he hired to do our job was on-time and worked till late evening just to clean up the job site. I would definitely hire Driftless Craft for our next project!!!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Many ways to landscape a steep slope on a budget exist. Avoiding expensive retaining wall construction is the first step. Consider creating a rocky slope with boulders or large stones, or think about planting perennials that return every year with a single investment. Transplanting small trees from elsewhere on your property is also possible and can help to stabilize steep slopes without purchasing new ones.

Professional lakefront landscaping addresses environmental factors such as water level fluctuations, erosion control, and native plant suitability. Regular maintenance includes pruning, fertilization, and ensuring drainage systems function well.

Yes, you can hydroseed with a garden hose, but you’ll need a tank or other large vessel for mixing the slurry, then a pump to send the slurry through the hose for spraying. Making your own hydroseeding unit can work, but it’s not usually worth the effort and supplies unless you already have them.

Xeriscaped lawns are far more varied than many gardeners initially assume. The often-pictured rocky and cacti-filled landscapes are just one option. Many wildflower-, herb-, and mulch-covered landscapes follow the same principles without straying too far from the lush and colorful landscapes we have come to know. In fact, there are numerous xeriscape ideas for customizing an energy-efficient lawn to your liking.

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.
