"Eli performed the work alone. Confirming with me what to trim off each tree. Total of 8 trees trimmed and clean up the same day. Excellent job on removal of all brush down to the last twig and leaves! Very ambitious young man! Fair pricing of labor. I will definitely use these services again. I highly recommend Eli to anyone expecting a job well done!"

"They had a tree trimmer person and an assistant at the job. I was able to help point out what I wanted trimmed during the process. They used a chipper to mulch the branches. Finally they raked up the small stuff. Nice job with clean up and the price was reasonable."

"We have a lot of mature large trees in our yard and doing yard work ourselves became quite the chore. We had Stangls Stumps come out and he spoke with us about pruning the trees to make yard work easier over the next few years. He offered us a quote we just did not want to say no to and the next weekend had perfect weather. His team came out and our trees and yard look like a million dollars! I am so happy that we can move on to planting our garden and utilizing our yard without having to do additional maintenance at this time! We will be calling for fall prep too! Thank you so much!!!"

"Wonderful job. Fantastic personality, helpful, enthusiastic, can't say enough about how great they were. Highly recommend their services. Will definitely have them back in spring if my house doesn't sell over the winter. Ten stars as far as I'm concerned."

"I hired Earthworks last summer to dig out part of my hillside and create a larger turnaround area for my driveway, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. They did excellent work from start to finish. The team was friendly, polite, and incredibly easy to work with. They took the time to explain my different options clearly and helped me choose the best approach for the space. They were also very flexible with scheduling and paid close attention to weather conditions and rain so the project could be done safely and without issues. I really appreciated how considerate they were of my neighbors as well—they made sure the heavy equipment didn’t damage the road and kept everything clean and respectful."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It could be anywhere from weeks to years for a dead tree to fall. A dead tree falls based on its weight, how it leans, the state of its roots, the state of decay, and what local windstorms are like, among other factors. Since it’s hard to predict the fall’s timing, it’s important to cut down a dead tree quickly and avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Generally, no, tree topping isn’t a good technique, and you should avoid using it in most cases. Tree topping may be the only good option to save a tree following severe damage after a storm, but in most other cases, it’s not the right choice. Tree topping can leave trees vulnerable to disease and further damage, and most pros will suggest against it.

The cost of trees varies massively based on the size of the tree and the species. A small Colorado spruce can cost as little as $30, but a golden rain tree of the same size can cost $90. Large trees can cost $1,500 or more, depending on their species and height.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.
