All of our home energy auditors are BPI certified. All of our installers are BPI certified company employees. We have great specials and financing available.

"The crew arrived right on time and immediately set to work. The foreman went through the house with his infrared camera to find the locations of studs and blocks (boards between studs) and gave measurements to another guy outside, who marked these locations with black tape. Then they drilled holes into each cavity from outside (5/8" holes through the stucco). That was quite a noisy operation! Once the holes where drilled, they began filling with the foam from outside. One person was inside to see if the foam started to come through the inside. (We had one spot where a kitchen cabinet was built right up to the outside -- 100 year old house -- and they started to run the insulation into the cabinet! Quickly stopped and easily cleaned up.) They used drop-cloths outside to collect most of the excess foam (see photo) and did a pretty good job of cleaning up. They filled the holes and touched up with the paint we provided. I admit I was worried about having a lot of obvious patches showing up on the walls outside, but you really cannot tell unless you look quite close... except for a few areas where the wall is dirty. Those should disappear when I do a little wall washing this summer. Our drafty, 100-year-old house is much less drafty, definitely cozier, and noticeably quieter (the foam-filled walls deaden a lot of noise.) Looking forward to seeing how it effects my energy bill! The two photos show the back of the house during the job (see black tape and lines of foam between holes) and after (all cleaned up; patched holes not easy to spot.) I should note that this was all done in one snowy, 30 degree day."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency

A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.

Insulation is measured by R-value, which is the measure of a material's ability to resist heat transfer. The higher the number, the better the insulation. When installing insulation yourself, you need to determine the optimal R-value you need to keep your home warm in the wintertime, cool in the heat of summer, and energy-efficient all year long. Each inch of insulation provides between a 3 and an 8 R-value. The climate where you live plays a major role in what R-value you need and the price tag you might see in your insulation installation.

Energy-efficient windows cost more than other window types, but they can help you save on your monthly energy bills, get you some breaks on your taxes, and even increase the value of your home. According to Michael S. Regan, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, when people invest in green upgrades like energy-efficient windows, they save energy, money, and more.

While you can perform many routine home maintenance jobs yourself, it’s often a good idea to bring pros in for certain tasks. HVAC maintenance, fireplace and chimney inspections, foundation repairs, and roof inspections and repairs should be handled by professionals who know what to look for and can safely perform repairs. You may also find it helpful to hire a local house cleaning service to help with deep cleaning.

Yes, installing an attic fan can help lower your electric bill—particularly if you live in a hot and humid region. By replacing hot and stuffy air with cooler air, these fans help regulate the temperature in your attic and the rest of your home, taking some of the pressure off of your air conditioner.
