Andy from Creekside was extremely responsive via text, in which I could send him pictures of the issues and he could get back to me with an estimate. He came to perform three jobs for us: - Take out an old living room chandelier from the 70's that had six separate cords going to six separate bulbs on a dimmer. Install new chandelier with a single cord and single bulb. - Fix/Replace a transformer for a doorbell ringer that has been buzzing for the last 6 years. Previous electricians said there wasn't anything we could do about it. - Install a timer switch for the bathroom heat lamp. I tried doing this myself, and while it worked, it was a consumer grade item from Ace Hardware that had its knob break on multiple occasions. In all three cases, Andy exceeded expectations. He did a great job of swapping out the lights, he replaced the transformer with a new one and it doesn't buzz anymore, and the timer switch is a nice button timer that counts down in 10-minute increments. On top of that, he came in under bid. Andy is FANTASTIC and his company will be our go-to electrician from here on out, no matter what the job."

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.
A portable generator can supply power to selected appliances and circuits in a home, but it's generally not designed to handle the entire household's electrical needs simultaneously. Portable generators have limited wattage capacity, so they are only designed to power essential devices and electronics temporarily until local power is restored. If your power needs outweigh the capabilities of a portable generator, consider installing a whole-home generator instead.
As long as they have enough fuel, whole-house generators can run for weeks at a time (400 to 500 hours) without suffering too much wear and tear. However, this type of extensive use isn’t ideal if you want to extend the life of your generator.
Two important points. First, some generators may need you to periodically check oil levels every day or so and refill as necessary for safe operation. Second, if your generator uses a fuel tank, keep it regularly full so it doesn’t suddenly shut off. Many backup generators can run through a full tank in a day when they are powering large portions of a home.
It’s usually better to repair your generator if it isn’t working properly, as it will typically be much more affordable and should yield similar results. Generator repairs cost around $300 on average, while installing a new whole-house generator costs around $5,000 on average. The only exception is if you know your generator is reaching the end of its useful life, usually between 30 and 40 years. If you have an older generator, you could face multiple repairs in the coming years, which might mean that a full replacement will be more cost-effective over time.
An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage.
