As soon as he came, he very professionally measured all areas of the decking, noticed any problem areas and was very very understanding when I advised that we were under time pressure and the we needed the decking to be safe for when my mom returned from hospital, Stephen was here to do the job and finish the job....giving priority as needed for her safety. "Amazing experience. Everything from getting the very detailed bid from Kurt so we were clear on what to expect, to the crew that painted our house, was excellent. Communication with Clider the crew leader on what was going to be happening each day was great and it really all went as planned. They were helpful in choosing stain and paint colors too which I really appreciated. Everyone on the team was experienced and meticulous. They spent a lot of time prepping, which makes for a great paint job. I would say they went above and beyond. The work site was always cleaned up at the end of the day and everyone was very respectful. They also have a parternship with a great carpenter who came first and replaced some rotten trim. You can either nail or screw deck boards according to your preference. We recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws in this guide because screws offer superior holding powder over time. If you’re using screws, you can minimize the risk of cracking the boards by drilling small pilot holes before securing the boards to the deck joists.

Rotten deck boards can sometimes be repaired, but only if the damage is minor. Repairing small patches of rot involves strengthening the damaged area with wood hardener, filler, or epoxy. More substantial damage requires replacing the boards or rebuilding the entire structure in extreme cases. If the rot extends to the joists, posts, or beams, have a contractor evaluate the damage to ensure it is still structurally sound.

It is possible to repair wet, rotted wood, but it depends on the extent of the damage. If the wood is severely decayed, it may be necessary to replace the affected sections entirely. However, if the rot is relatively minor, you can attempt to repair it. Start by removing any wet or decayed wood, allowing the area to dry thoroughly. Then, you can apply a wood hardener or consolidant to strengthen the remaining wood fibers. Finally, use epoxy wood fillers to fill in the damaged areas, shaping and sanding them to match the original wood surface.

The problems with composite decking include a high rate of expansion and contraction from temperature swings. This characteristic can cause boards to split, delaminate, or peel. In addition, significant movement can cause shrinking, warping, twisting, and bending. For this reason, you should minimize moisture and ensure proper airflow below your deck.
